Upper Pointe Coupee High School
Upper Pointe Coupee High School (at an earlier point Batchelor High School) was a public school located in the community of Batchelor in unincorporated Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana, United States. It was a part of the Pointe Coupee Parish School Board. History The school opened in 1958 as Batchelor High School with almost an entirely African-American student enrollment. When the Pointe Coupee Parish school system was integrated in 1969, Batchelor High School was partnered with the all white Innis High School. As part of this partnership, students were bused back and forth between the two campuses to participate in different courses. In 1980, this partnership ended with Innis High becoming an elementary school and Batchelor High being renamed Upper Pointe Coupee High. Rougon High School
Rougon High School was a school located at 13258 Louisiana Highway 416 in the town of Rougon, Louisiana. The school's mascot was the Devils. The school was built in 1940 on land donated by the Rougon family. It was originally called Rougon Graded School, and was partly formed from the students of the old Bueche School located in Jarreau, Louisiana. Poydras High School
Poydras High School was a school located on Louisiana Highway 1 in the city of New Roads, Louisiana, United States. The building formerly housing the school now houses the local historical society. History The school came into existence, in the early 19th century, in the form of several public schools in the parish known as "Poydras Schools". They were so named for Julien Poydras, a local planter, statesman, literary figure, and philanthropist, who contributed financially to their creation. At the time, these were the only public schools in Louisiana. These early public schools have caused some academics to refer to Pointe Coupee Parish as "the cradle of Louisiana public education." In 1809, Governor Claiborne wrote "In the Parish of Pointe Coupee provisions have been made for the support of two or more schools, but the other parishes do not seem dissuaded to imitate so worthy an example". Morganza High School
Morganza High School was a high school located at 752 South Louisiana Highway 3050 in the village of Morganza, Louisiana. The school buildings and grounds are currently used as a law enforcement training facility for the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff's Office. As part of a community project, the school's gymnasium was renovated in 2014 and is currently used as a community athletic facility, as well as a parish athletic hall of fame museum. History The school was established in 1906 as a three-room school building. The two-story building last used as Morganza High School was built in 1940. The high school closed in the early 1980s. The school's mascot was the Tigers. Pointe Coupee Central High School
Pointe Coupee Central High School was a public high school located in the Labarre area of unincorporated Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana, United States, on Louisiana Highway 1. History Pointe Coupee Central opened in the 1991–92 school year. It was intended to be the only public high school in Pointe Coupee Parish, with all high school students to attend this school. Due to geographical, and political reasons, Livonia High School was not merged. Students who had previously attended Upper Pointe Coupee High School, Rosenwald High School, and Rougon High School were sent to this new combined high school starting in 1991. In 2008 the school left the Pointe Coupee Parish School Board and became a charter school operated by Advance Baton Rouge. Livonia (pronounced Le Vone ya) is a town in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,442 at the 2010 census, up from 1,339 in 2000. It is part of the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area.
