Pocono Mountains Municipal Airport
Pocono Mountains Municipal Airport is a public airport two miles northwest of Mount Pocono, in Coolbaugh Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania. It is owned by the Pocono Mountains Municipal Airport Authority. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 categorized it as a ''general aviation'' facility. Facilities The airport covers 275 acres (111 ha) at an elevation of 1,915 feet (584 m). It has two asphalt runways: 5/23 is 4,000 by 100 feet (1,219 x 30 m) and 13/31 is 5,001 by 75 feet (1,524 x 23 m). In the year ending August 31, 2011 the airport had 19,850 aircraft operations, average 54 per day: 98.5% general aviation and 1.5% military. 19 aircraft were then based at the airport: 79% single-engine, 10.5% multi-engine, and 10.5% helicopter. Mount Pocono is a borough in Monroe County, Pennsylvania. It is located nearly centered in the southernmost county of five in the northeastern corner that are part of the Pocono Mountains. The borough serves as a local highway nexus, and sees a lot of tourist traffic making use of resources in the region. As of the 2020 census, the borough population was 3,083 residents. Geography Mount Pocono is located at (41.123012, −75.359574), and is nearly centered in Monroe County—the most southerly and centered county of the five counties containing portions of the Pocono Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has a system for categorizing public-use airports (along with heliports and other aviation bases) that is primarily based on the level of commercial passenger traffic through each facility. It is used to determine whether an airport is eligible for funding through the federal government's Airport Improvement Program (AIP). Fewer than 20% of airports in the U.S. qualify for the program, though most that don't qualify are private-use-only airports. At the bottom end are general aviation airports.
