Plumtree (band)
Plumtree was a Canadian indie rock/power pop band formed in 1993 in Halifax which consisted of sisters Carla and Lynette Gillis, Amanda Braden, Nina Martin, and later Catriona Sturton. The band achieved moderate success during their seven years of activity, completing several tours of Canada and parts of the U.S., as well as releasing three full-length albums, a six track EP, and various singles, before finally disbanding in June 2000. Their single "Scott Pilgrim" was the inspiration for the title character in the graphic novel series by Bryan Lee O'Malley. History The band formed in their hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia on April 9, 1993 after meeting through their music teachers. The Spinanes
The Spinanes were an American indie rock Musical ensemble#Rock and pop bands, band, primarily active during the 1990s. The band was founded by and consisted only of singer-songwriter/guitarist Rebecca Gates and drummer Scott Plouf. They released three albums on the Sub Pop label before Gates retired the name in 2001 and began releasing music as a solo artist; Plouf began playing with Built to Spill in 1996 and left The Spinanes shortly thereafter to become their permanent drummer. The duo formed in Portland, Oregon, in 1991, just as worldwide interest in the Indie music scene, music scene of the Pacific Northwest was beginning to crest. Thrush Hermit was a Canadian alternative rock band active in the 1990s, known for their "highly energetic, humorous, and unpredictable performances," as quoted by Vice News. History Thrush Hermit was formed in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1992 by Joel Plaskett (vocals, guitar), Rob Benvie (vocals, guitar), Ian McGettigan (vocals, bass), and Michael Catano (drums). Catano was replaced by Cliff Gibb in 1994; Gibb in turn left the band in 1999 and was replaced by Benn Ross. Jale (band)
Jale was a Canadian alternative rock band from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Contemporaries of Sloan and The Super Friendz, they were formed in 1992 and disbanded in 1996. They released three records in all (the albums '' Dreamcake'' and '' So Wound'' and the EP "Closed"). Career Jale was formed by four art school students in 1992. The guitarist Jennifer Pierce had earlier sung backing vocals on the album ''Smeared'' by Sloan. The other founders were Alyson MacLeod (drums), Laura Stein (bass guitar) and Eve Hartling (guitar). The band's name was formed from the first letters of the members' first names. Jale was the second Canadian band (after Eric's Trip) to be signed to the Seattle label Sub Pop.
