Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie, 6th Earl of Radnor, (8 July 1868 – 26 June 1930), styled Viscount Folkestone from 1889 to 1900, was a British Conservative Party politician and a British Army officer. Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie, 4th Earl Of Radnor
Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie, 4th Earl of Radnor (18 September 1815 – 11 March 1889) was a British nobleman and army officer. He was the son of William Pleydell-Bouverie, 3rd Earl of Radnor and Judith Anne St John-Mildmay. He was styled Viscount Folkestone from 1828 until 1869. Folkestone was educated at Harrow and Christ Church, Oxford. On 2 October 1837, he was commissioned a cornet in the Salisbury Troop of the Royal Wiltshire Regiment of Yeomanry. He was a lieutenant in the Regiment from 20 May 1840 to April 1847. He married Lady Mary Augusta Frederica Grimston, daughter of James Grimston, 1st Earl of Verulam, on 3 October 1840. Katherine (sometimes known as Katharine) Harriot Duncombe Pleydell-Bouverie (7 June 1895 – 1985) was a pioneer in modern English studio pottery, known for her wood-ash glazes. Biography Pleydell-Bouverie was born into an aristocratic family at the Coleshill estate near Faringdon, then in Berkshire. Her parents were Duncombe Pleydell-Bouverie and his wife Maria Eleanor, the daughter of Sir Edward Hulse, 5th Baronet; her paternal grandfather was Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie, 4th Earl of Radnor. Pleydell-Bouverie was the youngest of three children growing up in a 17th-century stately home surrounded by blue-and-white and ''famille verte'' Chinese porcelain. It was during childhood holidays playing on a muddy beach at Weston-super-Mare with her siblings that she was first introduced to clay. William Pleydell-Bouverie, 5th Earl of Radnor PC (19 June 1841 – 3 June 1900), styled Viscount Folkestone from 1869 to 1889, was a British Conservative politician. He served as Treasurer of the Household under Lord Salisbury between 1885 and 1886 and again between 1886 and 1891. Background Pleydell-Bouverie was the eldest son of Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie, 4th Earl of Radnor, by his wife Lady Mary Augusta Frederica Grimston, daughter of James Grimston, 1st Earl of Verulam. He became known by the courtesy title Viscount Folkestone when his father succeeded in the earldom of Radnor in 1869. Political career Lord Folkestone was returned to parliament for South Wiltshire in 1874. Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie, 2nd Earl of Radnor FRS FSA (4 March 1750 – 27 January 1828), styled Hon. Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie from 1761 to 1765 and Viscount Folkestone from 1765 to 1776, was a British politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1771 to 1776 when he succeeded to the peerage as Earl of Radnor. Life Born in Westminster, he was the son of William Bouverie, 1st Earl of Radnor and Harriet Pleydell, the daughter of Sir Mark Stuart Pleydell of Coleshill House in Berkshire (now Oxfordshire). Admiral The Honourable Duncombe Pleydell-Bouverie (28 June 1780 – 5 November 1850), was a British naval commander and Whig (British political faction), Whig politician. Pleydell-Bouverie was the second son of Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie, 2nd Earl of Radnor, and the Honourable Anne Duncombe, daughter of Anthony Duncombe, 1st Baron Feversham. William Pleydell-Bouverie, 3rd Earl of Radnor, was his elder brother. Pleydell-Bouverie served in the Royal Navy, entering the Academy at Portsmouth in 1793. He was promoted to Lieutenant on 16 February 1799 and to Commander on 14 February 1801. His first command was Dutch brig Komeet (1789), HMS ''Penguin'' from 28 August. Early life and education Bouverie is the son of the Honourable Peter John Pleydell-Bouverie and the Honourable Jane Victoria Gilmour.
