"Playing in the Band" is a Grateful Dead song. The lyrics were written by Robert Hunter and rhythm guitarist Bob Weir composed the music, with some assistance from percussionist Mickey Hart. The song first emerged in embryonic form on the self-titled 1971 live album '' Grateful Dead''. It then appeared in a more polished form on ''Ace'', Bob Weir's first solo album (which included every Grateful Dead member except Ron "Pigpen" McKernan). It has since become one of the best-known Grateful Dead numbers and a standard part of their repertoire. According to ''Deadbase X'', it ranks fourth on the list of songs played most often in concert by the band with 581 performances. The Grateful Dead was an American rock music, rock band formed in 1965 in Palo Alto, California. David Crosby
David Van Cortlandt Crosby (born August 14, 1941) is an American singer, guitarist, and songwriter. In addition to his solo career, he was a founding member of both the Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash. Crosby joined the Byrds in 1964. They got their first number-one hit in April 1965 with a cover of " Mr. Tambourine Man" by Bob Dylan. Crosby appeared on the Byrds' first five albums and produced the original lineup's 1973 reunion album. In 1967 he joined Buffalo Springfield on stage at the Monterey Pop Festival, which contributed to his dismissal from the Byrds. He subsequently formed Crosby, Stills & Nash in 1968 with Stephen Stills (of Buffalo Springfield) and Graham Nash of the Hollies. Wolf Bros – also known as Bob Weir & Wolf Bros or Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros – is a rock band led by former Grateful Dead guitarist and singer Bob Weir. The band plays some Grateful Dead songs along with other roots rock music. History Wolf Bros formed in 2018 as a trio, with Bob Weir on guitar and vocals, Don Was on double bass, and Jay Lane on drums. ''Dick's Picks Volume 16'' is the 16th live album in the Dick's Picks series of releases by the Grateful Dead. It was recorded on November 8, 1969 (with one song from the previous night's show) at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, California. It contains the first live performance of "Cumberland Blues". There is a monologue by someone not in the band during the song "Caution" shortly before the segue to "The Main Ten," who has never been definitively identified. ''Rolling Thunder'' is the first solo album by Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart. Although Hart had temporarily left the Grateful Dead at the time he made ''Rolling Thunder'', members of the Dead play on the album, along with a number of other well-known musicians from the San Francisco Bay Area music scene. Also featured are classical tabla players Zakir Hussain and his father Alla Rakha. Fillmore West
The Fillmore West was a historic rock and roll music venue in San Francisco, California, US which became famous under the direction of concert promoter Bill Graham from 1968 to 1971.
