Players Tour Championship
The Players Tour Championship was a series of snooker tournaments comprising some minor-ranking events played in Europe, and an Asian leg comprising some minor-ranking events in Asia. The series concluded with a Grand Final, where qualification was based on performance in the other PTC events, and had the status of a full ranking tournament. Each regular event lasted for at least three days, with qualifying days for amateurs should the event be oversubscribed. Each event costs £100 to enter, and Main Tour players can gain ranking points in the events. History The inaugural series ran from late June, with six events at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield, one in Gloucester and another five in mainland Europe (with 3 in Germany). The finals took place in March featuring the best 24 players who had won the most money and played at least 6 events; 3 in Sheffield and 3 in mainland Europe. South West Snooker Academy
The South West Snooker Academy (or the Capital Venue) is located in Gloucester Business Park. It was purposely built for snooker in July 2010 but is now home to the owner Paul Mount's business MIUS. History The South West Snooker Academy opened in 2010, with an exhibition match between Jimmy White and Tony Drago, both players who were managed by the Academy's owner Paul Mount. The venue had thirteen full-size snooker tables, a match arena with over 300 tiered seats, and a commentary box. Between the years of 2010 and 2013 the academy hosted World Snooker events such as the UK Players Tour Championship Events and World Ranking Qualifiers. But due to poor support and expenses in the summer of 2014 the layout of the building changed moving all tables upstairs in one match area and removing the arena replacing the entire downstairs with offices for MIUS. Steve Davis
Steve Davis (born 22 August 1957) is an English retired professional snooker player who is currently a commentator, musician, DJ, and author. He is best known for dominating professional snooker during the 1980s, when he reached eight World Snooker Championship finals in nine years, won six world titles, and held the world number one ranking for seven consecutive seasons. He was runner-up to Dennis Taylor in one of snooker's most famous matches, the 1985 world final, whose dramatic black-ball conclusion attracted 18.5 million viewers, setting UK records for any broadcast after midnight and any broadcast on BBC Two that stand to this day. Stephen Maguire
Stephen Maguire (born 13 March 1981) is a Scottish professional snooker player. He has won six major ranking tournaments, including the 2004 UK Championship, and has twice since reached the finals of that event. Maguire turned professional in 1998 after winning the IBSF World Snooker Championship. He was in the top 16 of the snooker world rankings for 11 consecutive years, from 2005 to 2016, twice reaching world no. 2. He is a prolific break-builder, having compiled more than 450 century breaks, including three maximums. Career Early career Maguire turned professional as a snooker player in 1998. The ''Sporting Life'' was a British newspaper published from 1859 until 1998, best known for its coverage of horse racing and greyhound racing. Latterly it has continued as a multi-sports website. Players Tour Championship 2014/2015 – Finals
The 2015 Players Tour Championship Grand Final was a professional ranking snooker tournament that took place between 24–28 March 2015 at the Montien Riverside Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. It was the ninth ranking event of the 2014/2015 season. Barry Hawkins was the defending champion, but he lost 2–4 against Mark King in the last 32. Joe Perry won his first ranking event by defeating Mark Williams 4–3 in the final. Prize fund The total prize money of the event was raised to £350,000 from the previous year's £300,000. The Players Tour Championship 2013/2014 was a series of snooker tournaments which started on 6 June 2013 and ended on 29 March 2014, with events held across Europe and Asia. In this season the European events formed the European Tour and events held in Asia the Asian Tour. The twelve regular minor-ranking events concluded with the Finals. Maximum Break
A maximum break (also known as a maximum, a 147, or orally, a one-four-seven) is the highest possible in a single of snooker. A player compiles a maximum break by potting all 15 with 15 for 120 points, followed by all six for a further 27 points. Compiling a maximum break is regarded as a particularly significant achievement in the game of snooker, and may be compared to a nine-dart finish in darts or a 300 game in ten-pin bowling. The first officially recognised maximum break was made by Joe Davis in a 1955 exhibition match in London.
