Plaxton
Plaxton is an English builder of bus and coach vehicle bodies based in Scarborough. Founded in 1907 by Frederick William Plaxton, it became a subsidiary of Alexander Dennis in May 2007. In 2019, the maker was acquired by Canadian bus manufacturer New Flyer which then became NFI Group. History Beginnings The business was founded as a joinery workshop, and expanded into building contracting. As a building contractor, Plaxtons built a number of notable buildings in Scarborough. Soon after World War I Plaxtons diversified and began to build charabanc bodies on Ford Model T chassis. Of more importance at the time was the construction of automobile bodywork. This included bodywork for Rolls-Royce, Sunbeam and Daimler, but principally for Crossley car chassis. This activity continued through the 1920s, but the depression of 1929–1933 created difficulties for manufacture of luxury automobiles. Plaxton Profile
The Plaxton Profile is a coach built by Plaxton for the Volvo B7R and Dennis Javelin chassis. It is the smallest of Plaxton's full-sized coach range. It began life as the Premiere 320 which was then updated to the Prima when the Premiere was replaced by the Paragon. The Prima was then modified with the Paragon lower dash panel and rear panel and rechristened the Profile. It was the first Plaxton coach to meet DDA requirements by widening the entrance in order to fit a wheelchair lift. It has seen success with smaller independents, with Warwickshire County Council purchasing five Profiles on Volvo B7R chassis for their school transport services in 2003, but a large batch has gone to Stagecoach primarily for their Bluebird routes. Some have also gone to First. The Profile was not modified to meet the European Commission Whole Vehicle Type Approval, it ceased production in 2012. Volvo B8R
The Volvo B8R is a 7.7-litre engined coach and intercity bus chassis manufactured by Volvo since 2013 for Euro VI markets. It was designed as a replacement for the B7R and the B9R. In 2017, Euro III and V versions were launched worldwide with engine outputs at 250 and 330 hp. The 250-hp version is marketed in Brazil as the Volvo B250R. Throughout Europe the B8R is most commonly available as the Volvo 8900, but can also be found in the Volvo 9500 and some versions of Volvo 9700, and from independent bus builders. It is also available as a low-entry bus chassis, known as Volvo B8RLE. In the Philippines, Volvo Buses launched the B8R in August 2018. It is the first B8R in the Philippine market to be imported from Borås, Sweden.
