Plan (magazine)
''Plan'' is a bi-monthly architecture and design publication based in Dublin, Ireland. It caters mainly for Irish and international architects and designers. ''Plan'' also documents alternative architectural culture such as interdisciplinary interplays between architecture and philosophy, art and new social movements. The magazine has featured contributions from, and interviews with, Daniel Libeskind, Peter Eisenman, Massimiliano Fuksas, Tadao Ando, Paul Andreu, Will Alsop, Wolf D Prix and Frank McDonald among others. Tadao Ando
is a Japanese autodidact architect whose approach to architecture and landscape was categorized by architectural historian Francesco Dal Co as "critical regionalism". He is the winner of the 1995 Pritzker Prize. Early life Ando was born a few minutes before his twin brother in 1941 in Osaka, Japan. At the age of two, his family chose to separate them, and have Tadao live with his great grandmother. He worked as a boxer and fighter before settling on the profession of architect, despite never having formal training in the field. Struck by the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Imperial Hotel on a trip to Tokyo as a second-year high school student, he eventually decided to end his boxing career less than two years after graduating from high school to pursue architecture. Uinseann MacEoin
Uinseann MacEoin (4 July 1920 – 21 December 2007) was an Irish architect, journalist, republican campaigner and historian. Born into an Irish republican family, MacEoin became involved with the Irish Republican Army during World War II and was interned alongside other republicans by the Irish government, who feared the IRA would draw Ireland into the war. In the decades after his internment, MacEoin would emerge as an influential architect who became involved with the preservation of historic sections of Dublin's inner city. Additionally, MacEoin remained interested in republicanism and would publish a number of books covering the history of Irish republicanism. As part of his research for these books, MacEoin would conduct oral interviews with other Irish republicans and record them; these recordings now serve as the core of a massive oral history collection held by the Irish Defence Forces. Frank McDonald (journalist)
Frank McDonald (born 1950) is an author, journalist, environmentalist and former environment editor of ''The Irish Times''. Career McDonald began his journalism career as a freelance New York Correspondent for the ''Irish Press'' newspaper from 1972 to 1973, sub-editor with the Irish Press from 1973 to 1977 and reporter from 1977 to 1978. He joined the ''Irish Times'' in 1979, becoming Environment Correspondent in 1986, a post which he held until he was appointed Environment Editor in 2000. Throughout his career, his writing has focused on planning and development in Dublin, from the demolition of parts of Georgian Dublin to the effect of Airbnb.
