Place Of Skulls (band)
Place of Skulls is an American doom metal band from Knoxville, Tennessee. Biography Place of Skulls was formed in 2000 by ex-Pentagram guitarist Victor Griffin. Griffin left Pentagram in 1996 and during this time before starting the band, became a Christian. The name is a biblical reference to Golgotha. The band put out their debut album, '' Nailed'', via Southern Lord Records in 2002. Many of these songs deal with Griffin's new found faith in Christianity. Four songs from the ''Nailed'' session were explicitly Christian and for this reason did not appear on the album. These were released as the ''Love Through Blood'' EP in 2005. Scott "Wino" Weinrich joined the band for their second album, '' With Vision''. The album was released by Southern Lord Records in 2003. Doom metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music that typically uses slower tempos, low-tuned guitars and a much "thicker" or "heavier" sound than other heavy metal genres.K. Scott "Wino" Weinrich
Robert Scott Weinrich (born 1961), better known as Wino, is an American singer and guitarist. He has been highly influential in helping develop and codify doom metal's trademark sound, and is also considered an influential figure in the stoner rock and punk rock genres. Weinrich started his first band Warhorse in 1976, which would later become The Obsessed. He joined doom metal band Saint Vitus in 1986. He has also released three solo albums since 2009. Biography Early years Weinrich appreciated rock music at an early age. His early influences were the Monkees and the Beatles (the latter inspired him to play guitar), and later Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix and Black Sabbath. He saw Black Sabbath during the ''Paranoid'' tour and described the gig as life-changing. He also cited punk bands like the Stooges, the Dictators and the Saints as big influences. ''Nailed'' is the first studio album by Place of Skulls. The album was originally recorded under the Man's Ruin label which folded before the album could be released. Guy Pinhas (The Obsessed, Goatsnake) appealed to Greg Anderson for assistance which resulted in the band signing with Southern Lord to distribute the album. Golgotha
Calvary ( la, Calvariae or ) or Golgotha ( grc-gre, Γολγοθᾶ, ''Golgothâ'') was a site immediately outside Jerusalem's walls where Jesus was said to have been crucified according to the canonical Gospels. Since at least the early medieval period, it has been a destination for pilgrimage.
