Piper High School is a public high school located in Sunrise, Florida, one of the nation's fastest growing cities. The school is a part of the Broward County Public Schools district. The school serves over 2,500 students from grades 9 through 12. The athletic teams are known as the Bengals. It serves: most of Sunrise, northwest sections of Lauderhill, a section of North Lauderdale, and a section of Tamarac. History Roma Adkins became the principal in 1994. Demographics As of the 2021–22 school year, the total student enrollment was 2,229. Sunrise, Florida
Sunrise is a city in central-western Broward County, Florida, United States, and is a principal city of the Miami metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the city had a total population of 97,335. Sunrise was incorporated in 1961 and founded by Norman Johnson, a developer whose Upside-Down House attracted buyers to what was then a remote area. History Early history In 1960, Iowa-born developer Norman Johnson paid $9 million for 2,650 acres of land in southwestern Broward County. By 1961, this community of 1.75 square miles—which Johnson named Sunrise Golf Village—had fewer than 350 residents. Michael Irvin
Michael Jerome Irvin (born March 5, 1966) is an American sports commentator and former professional football wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL). In 2007, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Irvin played college football at the University of Miami and was selected in the first round of the 1988 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. Quadtrine Victavian Hill (born November 18, 1982, in West Palm Beach, Florida) is a former American football fullback. He was originally signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2006. He played college football at the University of Miami. High school career Hill was an All-State tailback at Piper High School in Sunrise, Florida. As a senior in 2001, he rushed for 1,356 yards and 20 touchdowns, averaging more than seven yards per carry. He was also noted to be an outstanding student with a 4.3 grade-point average. Brian Edward Gottfried (born January 27, 1952) is a retired American tennis player who won 25 singles titles and 54 doubles titles during his professional career. Kenneth Daniel Fuchs (born July 1, 1956) is a Grammy Award-winning American composer. He currently serves as Professor of Music Composition at the University of Connecticut (Storrs). Albert Gene Anthony Connell (born May 13, 1974) is a former American football wide receiver who played for the Washington Redskins and the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League, and for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. Brian Blades
Brian Keith Blades (born July 24, 1965) is an American former professional football player who was a wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). Blades graduated from Piper High School in Sunrise, Florida in 1983. He attended the University of Miami. He finished his college career with 80 catches for 1,493 yards and 15 TDs. After graduating, he was chosen in the 2nd round (49th overall) of the 1988 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. Horatio Benedict "Bennie" Blades Sr. (born September 3, 1966) is a former American football cornerback and safety in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Miami. College career Blades played a big part in the University of Miami's winning the 1987 NCAA National Championship. He also won the Jim Thorpe Award in that year and, in 2006, was named to the College Football Hall of Fame for his play at the University of Miami.
