Piornedo
Piornedo is a small village in the Ancares mountains in Spain located at a height of approximately 1,300 metres. The village is part of the parish of Donis (official name San Fiz de Donis), which is located in the municipality of Cervantes, in the comarca of Os Ancares, in the province of Lugo, Galicia. Palloza
A palloza (also known as pallouza or pallaza) is a traditional dwelling of the Serra dos Ancares of northwest Spain. Structure A palloza is a traditional thatched house as found in Leonese county of El Bierzo, Serra dos Ancares in Galicia, and south-west of Asturias; corresponding to Astur tribes area, one of pre Hispano-Celtic inhabitants of northwest Hispania. It is circular or oval, and about ten or twenty metres in diameter and is built to withstand severe winter weather at a typical altitude of 1,200 metres. The main structure is stone, and is divided internally into separate areas for the family and their animals, with separate entrances. The roof is conical, made from rye straw on a wooden frame. There is no chimney, the smoke from the kitchen fire seeps out through the thatch. Cervantes, Lugo
Cervantes is a municipality in the comarca of Os Ancares, in the province of Lugo, Galicia, Spain. It had a population of 1,973 in 2005, and has an area of 277 square kilometres. Its highest point is Mustellar (1924 m), in the Ancares mountains. Until the second half of the 20th century this part of Spain was isolated. Many settlements had no road access or electricity and were cut off by snow in winter. Communities were small and self-sufficient. This way of life is shown in the small museum at Piornedo which is located in a preserved palloza. The main economic activities in 2006 were agriculture, forestry and tourism. Ancares
The Serra dos Ancares (Spanish: ''Sierra de los Ancares'', also known as ''Sierra de Ancares'') is a mountain range of the Galician Massif in north-west Spain, extending in a south-westerly direction from the western end of the Cantabrian Mountains in Asturias. Geography The range forms the boundary between the autonomous communities of Galicia and Castile and León. The highest point of the range is the Cuiña Peak at . Other notable peaks are Mustallar (1,935 m) and Miravalles (1,969 m). The smaller Serra do Courel lies south of this range, stretching parallel to it. The main trees in the range are willow and European alder close to water courses, as well as chestnut, ash, common hazel, oak and common holly. Above there is brushland with tree heath and juniper. Donis (Cervantes)
Donis is a Lithuanian ambient, neofolk and experimental music project created by the Klaipėda multi-instrumentalist Donatas Bielkauskas. He was also a member of electronic music projects ''Wejdas'', ''Notanga'', ''Ha Lela'', ''Eirimė''. Donis has released 8 CDs. Most of Donis’ works are musical interpretations of Baltic tribal ethnomusic. His most well known album is ''Bitė Lingo''. It has 8 archaic Lithuanian war songs interpreted by folk vocalist Rasa Serra. The album ''Švilpiai'' contains ancient ocarina (švilpynė) music. The album ''Sotvaras'' is made together with famous Lithuanian pagan band Kūlgrinda members. Comarca
A ''comarca'' (, or , or ) is a traditional region or local administrative division found in Portugal, Spain and some of their former colonies, like Brazil, Nicaragua, and Panama. The term is derived from the term ''marca'', meaning a "march, mark", plus the prefix ''co''-, meaning "together, jointly". Os Ancares
Os Ancares is a comarca in the Galician Province of Lugo. The overall population of this local region is 13,888 (2005). It is formed by the municipality of Candín with two slopes, Sil and Navia, and separated by the Ancares pass. Today, Os Ancares also refers to a broader region that straddles the provinces of Lugo and León. The Spanish term ''Los Ancares Lucenses'' (i.e. pertaining to Lugo) is sometimes used to refer to the Galician Ancares, thus distinguishing them from ''Los Ancares Leoneses'' (i.e. pertaining to León).
