Pinto Martins International Airport
Fortaleza-Pinto Martins International Airport is the international airport serving Fortaleza, Brazil. It is named after ''Euclides Pinto Martins'' (1892–1924) a Ceará-born aviator, who in 1922 was one of the pioneers of the air-link between New York City and Rio de Janeiro. The airport is operated by Fraport Brasil. Some facilities are shared with Fortaleza Air Force Base. History The airport had its origins on a runway built in the 1930s and used by Ceará Flying School until 2000. During World War II, the airport was an important allied base supporting Southern Atlantic operations. On May 13, 1952, the original name, Cocorote Airport, was changed to its present name paying tribute to Ceará-born aviator ''Euclides Pinto Martins''. Goiânia International Airport
Santa Genoveva/Goiânia International Airport is the airport serving Goiânia, Brazil. It is operated by CCR. History The airport was commissioned in 1955 although operations started a few years earlier. In 1974, Infraero started to operate the airport. In 2010 the government of the state of Goiás, in order to encourage tourism and aviation reduced the tax on petrol from 15% to 3%. After such a reduction there was some interest from airlines to build a hub at Santa Genoveva airport but operational limitations prevented the immediate implementation of such a plan. The old passenger terminal was capable of handling 600,000 passengers/year but in its last few years it had been operating beyond its capacity: in 2015 it handled more than 5 times its capacity. Teresina–Senador Petrônio Portella Airport is the airport serving Teresina, Brazil. Since December 22, 1999 it is named after Petrônio Portella Nunes (1925-1980) a former Mayor of Teresina, Governor of Piauí, Senator and Minister of Justice who had a key role in preparing the end of the Brazilian military government. It is operated by CCR. History The airport was commissioned on September 30, 1967 and on December 23, 1974 it started being operated by Infraero.
