Pinnacle Road–East Pinnacle Border Crossing
The Pinnacle Road–East Pinnacle Border Crossing connects the town of East Pinnacle, Quebec with the western portion of Richford, Vermont. A new US border station at this crossing was built in 2012, directly behind the old border station. For years, the old border station was heated using a solar water heating system. The border crossing is one of the least busy in Vermont, with three to 20 cars using it a day. For many years, there were no border inspection services at this location. Finally in 1971, the US built a border inspection station. Canada built its border station in 1982, rerouting Chemin de la Frontiere around it. Both the US and Canadian border stations are open only from 8 AM to 4 PM, seven days a week. Richford, Vermont
Richford is a town in Franklin County, Vermont, United States, located along the Canada–United States border. The population was 2,346 at the 2020 census. Richford is the birthplace of R. G. LeTourneau, an industrialist who founded LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas. Richford is the eastern terminus of the Missisquoi Valley Rail-Trail. Geography Richford is located in the northeast corner of Franklin County, bordered to the north by the Brome-Missisquoi Regional County Municipality in the Montérégie region of Quebec in Canada. Orleans County, Vermont, is to the east. Richford, the primary community, is in the northwest part of the town along the Missisquoi River. East Pinnacle, Quebec
Abercorn is a village in the Brome-Missisquoi Regional County Municipality in the Estrie region of Québec, Canada. The population as of the Canada 2016 Census was 334. It is bordered by the larger township of Sutton to the north and east, by Frelighsburg to the west, and the town of Richford, Vermont in the United States to the south. Toponymy The place was first known as Sheppard's Mills in honor of Thomas Sheppard, one of the first inhabitants in 1879. However, the origin of the name Abercorn remains uncertain. This name is probably related to the title held by James Hamilton (1811-1885), Duke of Abercorn. This title is itself linked to a Scottish village located east of Edinburgh. Solar water heating (SWH) is heating water by sunlight, using a solar thermal collector.
