Pinky Ribbon Awards
The are a Japanese cinema awards ceremony which recognizes excellence in the ''pink film'' genre. The award is held by , a Kansai region paper covering the ''pink film'' industry. Readers of the paper elect the winners of the awards, which have been held annually since 2004. Honors go to the best three films of the year—Gold, Silver and Pearl awards—and to the best actresses. Pink Film
in its broadest sense includes almost any Japanese theatrical film that includes nudity (hence 'pink') or deals with sexual content. This encompasses everything from dramas to action thrillers and exploitation film features. The Western equivalent of pink films would essentially be erotic thrillers, e.g. ''Fatal Attraction'', ''Fifty Shades of Grey'', ''Basic Instinct'', ''9½ Weeks '', as well as the works of directors Russ Meyer and Andy Sidaris. Some writers use the term 'pink film' for Japanese sex movies produced and distributed by smaller independent studios such as OP Eiga, Shintōhō Eiga, Kokuei and Xces. In this narrower sense, Nikkatsu's ''Roman Porno'' series, Toei Company's ''Pinky Violence'' series and the Tokatsu films distributed by Shochiku would not be included as these studios have much larger distribution networks. Minami Aoyama
is a Japanese former ''pink film'' actress and AV idol. She appeared in award-winning ''pink films'', and was herself given a Best Actress award for her work in this genre in 2006. Life and career Minami Aoyama was born in Tokyo on May 28, 1982 and began her career as an adult video (AV) actress in 2003 at the age of 21. She made her ''pink film'' debut that same year in director Toshiya Ueno's ''Ambiguous'' (December 2003), which was the winner of the Best Film award at the Pink Grand Prix. Mamoru Watanabe
was a Japanese film director, screenwriter and actor, known for his work in the '' pink film'' genre. Along with directors Genji Nakamura and Banmei Takahashi, Watanabe was known as one of the "Three Pillars of Pink". Life and career Early life Watanabe was born in Tokyo on March 19, 1931. His father owned a neighborhood movie theater, giving the young Watanabe an early interest in and a familiarity with the cinema. The family lived near the Daito Eiga studios, and Watanabe would go to watch the filming of ''jidaigeki''. Daito was one of the studios that would be joined into the Daiei Motion Picture Company by the government during World War II. Watanabe's older brother, born about 1919, was also a film enthusiast. When he died of tuberculosis in 1941, Watanabe inherited his older brother's large collection of movie memorabilia, including film scripts and magazines. Yoshikazu Katō
is a Japanese film director and screenwriter. Life and career Yoshikazu Katō was born in Kyoto in 1972, and became a fan of the ''pink film'' while still in junior high school. He graduated from the Nikkatsu Visual Arts Academy in 1993, and began working in the film industry in 1995. is a Japanese '' pink film'' actor and director from Osaka, Japan. He has been called "one of the most individual actors" in the world of pink film. Shinji Imaoka
