The Pinamar Open, or the Abierto de Pinamar, is a golf tournament on the TPG Tour, the official professional golf tour in Argentina. Golf
Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. Rafael Gómez (golfer)
Rafael Faustino Gómez (born 27 December 1967) is an Argentine professional golfer. Career Gómez was born in Buenos Aires. He turned professional in 1990. He played on the European Challenge Tour in 2003 and from 2005 to 2007 and the European Tour from 2005 to 2007. He played on the U.S.-based Nationwide Tour in 2004 and a few events on the PGA Tour. His best finish on the PGA Tour was 38th place in The International in 2002. His best finish on the European Tour was 22nd place in the KLM Open in 2006. Gómez won the TPG Tour Order of Merit in 2007 and the Tour de las Americas Order of Merit in 2001/02 and 2004. He was second in Los Encinos Open in 2002, Mexican Open in 2006 and the Colombian Open in 2008. Gómez and Ángel Cabrera have the most tournament wins on the Tour de las Americas with eight victories. Vicente Fernández (golfer)
Vicente Fernández (born 5 April 1946) is an Argentine golfer who has won more than 60 professional tournaments around the world. Fernández was born in Corrientes, Argentina. He turned professional in 1964 and was a regular competitor on the European Tour from the mid-1970s to the mid-1990s. He won four titles on the tour and had two top ten Order of Merit finishes, placing 6th in 1974 and 9th in 1975. He was sixteenth on the Order of Merit in 1992 at the age of 46. As a senior Fernández moved to the United States to play on the Senior PGA Tour (now the Champions Tour), where he has won four tournaments. Florentino Molina
Florentino Molina (born 30 December 1938) is an Argentine professional golfer. Molina was born in Río Cuarto, Córdoba. He turned pro in 1960. He won the Argentine Open five times and the Argentine Professional Rankings four times. He played on the PGA Tour from 1975 to 1980 and the European Tour in 1981. He was second in French Open in 1970 and 4th in the B.C. Open in 1977. He was second in Argentine Open in 1962 and the Brazil Open in 1970. Molina played in the British Open five times (1970, 1971, 1974, 1978 and 1981), and once in the U.S. Open (1977), when he was one of seven players tied for the lead after the first round. Adan Sowa
Adan Domingo Sowa (born 15 August 1954) is an Argentine professional golfer. Sowa was born in Buenos Aires, and turned professional in 1973. He won the Argentine Open twice, in 1978 and 1983, and led the Argentine Professional Rankings on two occasions, in 1978 and 1982. He was second in the 1985 Argentine Open and the 1982 Argentine PGA Championship. In 1982, Sowa was second in the Jujuy Open on the Argentine Professional Tour, but claimed the first prize cheque because the overall winner was amateur, Luis Carbonetti. Sowa played on the European Tour from 1978 to 1986, with a best finish of tied 6th in the Italian Open in 1986, on his way to 69th place on the Order of Merit. He played in the British Open three times, in 1978, 1979 and 1986. Sowa currently competes on the European Seniors Tour. Rubén Alvarez
Rubén Alvarez (30 May 1961 – 9 November 2014) was an Argentine professional golfer. Alvarez was born in Pilar, Buenos Aires. He worked as a caddie in Buenos Aires, before turning professional in 1986. Alvarez won the Argentine Qualifying School in 1986, and went on to win the Argentine Tour Ranking (Order of Merit) in 1991, but he only competed once in a major championships, the British Open in 1994. He competed on the Challenge Tour in 1991, with a best of two second-place finishes, the Ramlösa Open and the Jede Hot Cup, both held in Sweden. He competed on the European Tour from 1993 to 1995, and had two top ten finishes, coming 9th in both the 1994 Tenerife Open and the 1995 Madeira Island Open. Alvarez represented Argentina on two occasions in the World Cup, 1991 in Rome, Italy and 1992 in Madrid, Spain. He was second in the San Pablo Open (Brazil) in 1990. Alvarez died of cancer in 2014. José Eusebio Cóceres (born 14 August 1963) is an Argentine professional golfer who spent many years on the European Tour and the PGA Tour. Cóceres was born in Argentina's Chaco province. He is one of 11 children who grew up in a two-bedroom house. He became a caddie and taught himself the game. Cóceres turned professional in 1986 and won a place on the European Tour at the 1990 Qualifying School. After struggling in 1991 and 1992 he performed steadily on the tour from 1993 onwards, and in 2000 he reached a career high of thirteenth on the Order of Merit. His two European Tour wins came at the 1994 Heineken Open Catalonia and the 2000 Dubai Desert Classic. In 2001, Cóceres switched to the PGA Tour. Sebastián Fernández (born 8 September 1973) is an Argentine professional golfer. Fernández was born in Buenos Aires. He worked as a caddie in Buenos Aires, before turning professional in 1991. He won the Argentine Tour Order of Merit in 2000. He won three Argentine PGA Championships, in 1991, 2001 and 2005, the first as an 18-year-old, and also came second in 2003. Fernández competed on the Challenge Tour from 2003 to 2007, winning one tournament, the Costa Rica Open in 2003, and finishing second in the Skandia PGA Open (Sweden) in 2003, the Costa Rica Open in 2005 and the Challenge of Ireland in 2006. Daniel Vancsik (born 7 January 1977) is an Argentine professional golfer. Early life Vancsik was born in Posadas, Argentina. He started playing the game when he was 12 at the Tacuru Club in Posadas-Misiones-Argentina. TPG Tour
The TPG Tour (Tour de Profesionales de Golf) is the principal professional golf tour in Argentina. The tour was formed in 2007, following disputes within the PGA of Argentina, who had operated the main professional tour in the country in previous years. The tour operated exclusively in Argentina in its inaugural season, but this changed in 2008 with the inclusion of the Carlos Franco Invitational, held in Paraguay. There were seventeen events in 2007 and sixteen in 2008, including the flagship Argentine Open and Argentine Masters, as well as the major regional opens, the South Open, Center Open, North Open and Coast Open. Julio César Zapata (born 22 July 1976) is an Argentine professional golfer. Early life and career Zapata was born in Rafaela, Santa Fe Province, and turned professional in 1997. In 2005, Zapata was second in the Argentina Tour rankings, winning the Norpatagonico Open and finishing second in five other tournaments, including the Argentine Masters and the Coast Open. The following year, he won the Players Championship on the Tour de las Américas, and was third on that tour's Order of Merit. In 2008 he won the South Open, the last tournament of the 2008 TPG Tour.
