''Canarium ovatum'', the pili (Central Bikol and Filipino: ''pili'', ;), is a species of tropical tree belonging to the genus ''Canarium''. It is one of approximately 600 species in the family Burseraceae. ''C. ovatum'' are native to the Philippines. They are commercially cultivated in the Philippines for their edible nut (fruit), nuts and is believed to be indigenous to that country. The fruit and tree are often vulgarized with the umbrella term of "Canarium vulgare, Java almond" which mixes multiple species of the same genus, ''Canarium#Common names, Canarium''. Description The ''C. ovatum'' tree is a symmetrically-shaped evergreen, averaging tall with resinous wood and resistance to strong winds. It is dioecious, with flowers borne on cymose inflorescence at the leaf axils of young shoots. As in papaya and rambutan, functional hermaphrodites exist in ''C. ovatum''. Pollination is by insects. Heteropogon Contortus
''Heteropogon contortus'' is a tropical, perennial tussock grass with a native distribution encompassing Southern Africa, southern Asia, Northern Australia, Oceania, and southwestern North America. The species has also become a naturalised weed in tropical and subtropical regions in the Americas and East Asia. The plant grows to in height and is favoured in most environments by frequent burning. The plants develop characteristic dark seeds with a single long awn at one end and a sharp spike at the other. The awn becomes twisted when dry and straightens when moistened, and in combination with the spike is capable of drilling the seed into the soil. The species is known by many common names, including black speargrass, tanglehead, ''steekgras'' (in Afrikaans) and ''pili'' (in Hawaiian, ultimately from Proto-Austronesian *''pilit''₁ "to adhere/stick"). Pili, officially the Municipality of Pili (, Rinconada Bikol: Banwaan ''ka Pili'', tgl, Bayan ng Pili) is a 1st class municipality and capital of the Philippine Province, province of Camarines Sur, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 99,196 people. Pili is from Manila. History The first recorded history of Pili started during the promulgation of Christianity in the early 1770s by the Spanish missionaries, when the town houses the “Cimarrones” or the “Remontados” who resisted the foreign rule of the neighboring Hispanic city of Nueva Caceres. __NOTOC__ Acamarachi (also known as ''Pili'') is a high volcano in northern Chile. In this part of Chile, it is the highest volcano. Its name means "black moon". It is a volcano in the Central Volcanic Zone of the Andes, a zone of strong volcanic activity during the last million years. Old volcanoes in the area are well-preserved, due to the dry climate. Acamarachi itself is a cone-shaped volcano with steep upper flanks and a lava dome on its northern side. While there is no indication of historical activity and the flank lava flows are old, some lava flows around the summit crater and a lava coulee north of Acamarachi on the saddle between Acamarachi and Colachi volcano may be postglacial in age. Jaunpur () is a city and a municipal board in Jaunpur district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is located 228 km southeast of state capital Lucknow. Jianzi (), tī jianzi (踢毽子), tī jian (踢毽) or jianqiú (毽球), is a traditional Chinese national sport in which players aim to keep a heavily weighted shuttlecock in the air by using their bodies, apart from the hands, unlike in similar games Peteca and Indiaca. Pilikaʻaiea (or Pili-auau; the short form: Pili) was ''Aliʻi Nui'' of Hawaiʻi. He was a sovereign chief, who deposed the indigenous chief, Kapawa. Name The Hawaiian word ''pili'' is the native Hawaiian name of ''Heteropogon contortus''. Biography Pilikaʻaiea was a grandchild of Lanakawai of the Ulu line, but he was born and brought up in "Kahiki" (Tahiti).
