Pietro Paolo Vasta
Piero or Pietro Paolo Vasta (31 July 1697 - 28 November 1760) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period, mainly active in the east of his native Sicily. Biography He was born in Acireale. and initially trained with both the painters Giacinto Platania and Antonio Filocamo, who directed the fresco decoration in 1711 of the Cathedral of Acireale. At the age of 17 years, he moved to Rome, where he was mentored putatively by Luigi Garzi. Vasta was apparently admitted to the Accademia di San Luca in Rome; however, little of his work here is known. He returned to Acireale in 1731. One of his first works were frescoes for the church of San Sebastiano, where he could be compared to Venerando Costanzo, who was also painting frescoes contemporaneously. He would next add frescoes depicting scenes from the Old Testament to the Cathedral, here competing with Costanzo for the commission. Maribel Quiñones or ''María Isabel Quiñones Gutiérrez'' in full, known under her stage name as Martirio (a Spanish given name meaning ''Martyrdom'' or ''Torment'', in English) is a Spanish singer born in 1954 in Huelva, Spain. She borrows her style and inspiration from flamenco that she adapts or merge with more modern musical trends, especially jazz and tango music, tango but also Pop music, pop, Rock music, rock, Swing (genre), swing, and guaracha, in this sense, she can properly be ranked as a New Flamenco artist. She is also noted for a distinctive look (wearing large sunglasses). Santi Pietro E Paolo, Acireale
Santi Pietro e Paolo is a Sicilian Baroque, Baroque-style, Roman Catholic collegiate basilica church located in central Acireale in the region of Sicily of Italy. It rises adjacent to the Cathedral of Acireale. History and description A local fraternity built smaller church or oratory with the same name adjacent to the cathedral in the 16th century. In the early 17th century a new church was built at this site, but damage from the 1693 Sicily earthquake, destroyed the dome of this structure and caused much damage. The pre-1693 church had been frescoed between 1674 and 1679 by the Giovanni Fulco. Reconstruction began in 1740, using designs by Pietro Paolo Vasta. Built with expensive white stone from Siracusa, work continued through the century. In 1765, the facade was completed by Paolo Guarrera. Vito D'Anna
Vito D'Anna (14 October 1718 – 13 October 1769) was an Italian painter, considered the most prominent painter of Palermitan rococo and one of the most important artists of Sicily. Biography He was the father of Alessandro D'Anna, the brother-in-law of Francesco Sozzi, and the son-in-law of Olivio Sozzi. He studied in Acireale under Pietro Paolo Vasta from 1736 to 1744, when he returned to Palermo. In Acireale, he had painted ''Portrait of the Provost Gambino''. Returning to Palermo, Vito married the daughter of the Catanese painter Olivio Sozzi. Sozzi helped arrange D'Anna to work with the circle of an aged Corrado Giaquinto in Rome. D'Anna frescoed a number of palaces, and the churches of San Sebastiano, San Matteo and del Salvatore in Palermo. The church is located at the end of Via Romero, where the strada del la Marina leads through an opening in the town walls to the Fortezza del Tocco and to the seaside. Acireale Cathedral ( it, Duomo di Acireale, ''Cattedrale Maria Santissima Annunziata'') is a Roman Catholic cathedral dedicated to the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the city of Acireale in Sicily, province of Catania, Italy. It was declared the seat of the Bishop of Acireale in 1870. The present cathedral building, which is located in the ''Piazza Duomo'', was constructed as a simple parish church between 1597 and 1618 that was greatly enlarged a few years later when it received the relics of Saint Venera, one of the two patron saints of the city,.
