Pierrot Lunaire (band)
Pierrot Lunaire was an Avant-prog/Progressive folk band from Italy. The band formed in 1974 and was originally named Primtemps. Two albums were released: a self-titled one in 1974 and ''Gudrun'' in 1976. They are quite different in style, the first being more based upon normal song structure though still being quite experimental, and the second being more free-form and experimental than the first. ''Gudrun'' is regarded as a classic by many fans of progressive rock. The band appears on the Nurse with Wound list. Avant-prog
Avant-prog (short for avant-garde progressive rock) is a music genre that appeared in the late 1970s as the extension of two separate progressive rock subgenres: Rock in Opposition (RIO) and the Canterbury scene. History and characteristics A host of groups and artists mainly from the United States, but also from Europe and Japan, "started to write mostly short instrumental pieces that focused on complexity and stripped down instrumentation, while avoiding the pomposity and stage props of the big progressive rock acts." Some groups, such as Thinking Plague and the Motor Totemist Guild, kept working with long durations and rich instrumentation but also forayed into free improvisation, sound collage, and other avant-garde techniques. Progressive folk was originally a type of American folk music that pursued a progressive political agenda. More recently, the term has also been applied to a style of contemporary folk that draws from post-Bob Dylan folk music and adds new layers of musical and lyrical complexity, often incorporating various ethnic influences. Gaio Chiocchio (25 May 1954 – 28 July 1996) was a Brazilian-born Italian lyricist, record producer, composer, and singer-songwriter. Vincenzo Caporaletti (born 1955) is an Italian musicologist known for devising audiotactile formativity theory. Career Caporaletti was born in 1955 and raised in Roseto degli Abruzzi. He was a founding member of the Italian progressive rock group Pierrot Lunaire in the early 1970s, along with Arturo Stàlteri and Gaio Chiocchio. The first self-titled album. was released in 1974. From this year on, he started to dedicate his attention to the world of jazz, in particular in Rome, collaborating with musicians such as Tony Scott, Giulio Capiozzo and Jimmy Owens. Caporaletti's research activity in musicology started at the end of the 1970s. Gudrun ( ; non, Guðrún) or Kriemhild ( ; gmh, Kriemhilt) is the wife of Sigurd/Siegfried and a major figure in Germanic heroic legend and literature. She is believed to have her origins in Ildico, last wife of Attila the Hun, and two queens of the Merovingian dynasty, Brunhilda of Austrasia and Fredegund. In both the Continental (German) and Scandinavian traditions, Gudrun/Kriemhild is the sister of the Burgundian king Gunther/Gunnar and marries the hero Siegfried/Sigurd. Both traditions also feature a major rivalry between Gudrun and Brunhild, Gunther's wife, over their respective ranks.
