Pierre Vidal (composer)
Pierre Daniel Vidal (27 April 1927 – 5 February 2010) was a French composer, organist, and musicologist. Biography Born in Clichy, Vidal was an autodidact. At the age of 16, he had piano and organ lessons with Marcel Dupré for 4 years. Then he followed the lessons by Henri Challan in harmony at the Conservatoire de Paris. He read a lot of good books about classical music, especially those by Albert Schweitzer and Boris de Schloezer. He became a specialist by hearing the recordings of Wilhelm Furtwängler, Willem Mengelberg, Karl Münchinger and Helmut Walcha. He was at the concerts by Wanda Landowska and André Marchal. André Jorrand became one of his pupils. From 1946 to 1970, he was the organist of Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Belleville church. Following the advice of Michel Chapuis, he became an organ teacher at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg in 1967. He died in Mersuay at the age of 82. Musicologist
Musicology (from Greek μουσική ''mousikē'' 'music' and -λογια ''-logia'', 'domain of study') is the scholarly analysis and research-based study of music. Musicology departments traditionally belong to the humanities, although some music research is scientific in focus (psychological, sociological, acoustical, neurological, computational). Some geographers and anthropologists have an interest in musicology so the social sciences also have an academic interest. A scholar who participates in musical research is a musicologist. Musicology traditionally is divided in three main branches: historical musicology, systematic musicology and ethnomusicology. Historical musicologists mostly study the history of the western classical music tradition, though the study of music history need not be limited to that. Éditions Robert Laffont is a book publishing company in France founded in 1941 by Robert Laffont. Its publications are distributed in almost all francophone countries, but mainly in France, Canada and in Belgium. It is considered one of the most important French publishing houses. Imprints belonging to Éditions Robert Laffont include éditions Julliard, les Seghers, Foreign Rights and NiL Éditions. In 1990, Éditions Robert Laffont was acquired by the French publishing group Groupe de La Cité. It is now part of Editis. Alain Pâris
Alain Pâris (born 22 November 1947) is a French conductor and musicologist. Biography Born in Paris, Alain Pâris was trained as a pianist and has a law degree. He studied conducting with Pierre Dervaux, Paul Paray and Georg Solti and won the First prize at the International Besançon Competition for Young Conductors in 1968. For thirty-seven years, he was the youngest winner before Lionel Bringuier took his place. An assistant to Michel Plasson at the Capitole de Toulouse, he was principal conductor at the Opéra du Rhin (1983–1987) and professor of conducting at the conservatoire de Strasbourg (1986–89). Paul-Gilbert Langevin
Paul-Gilbert Langevin ( Boulogne-Billancourt, 5 July 1933 – Paris, 4 July 1986) was a French musicologist, who was a specialist on Anton Bruckner, Franz Schubert and 19th-century classical music. History Paul-Gilbert Langevin was the son of French physicist Paul Langevin (1872–1946) and Eliane Montel (1898–1993), a private teacher at the Sorbonne science department. He started his scientific education at the Sorbonne and then completed it at the Université Pierre-et-Marie-Curie, obtaining a degree in physical chemistry under the supervision of professor René Freymann. From a young age, Langevin had a deep interest in classical music, listening to Anton Bruckner's symphonies on radio recordings during his youth and meeting conductor Roberto Benzi.
