Pierre Basile Benoit
Pierre Basile Benoit (October 8, 1837 – November 11, 1910) was a Quebec farmer and political figure. He represented Chambly in the House of Commons of Canada as a Conservative member from 1867 to 1874 and from 1876 to 1886. He was born in Longueuil, Lower Canada in 1837, the son of Laurent Benoit, and educated at St. Hyacinthe. Benoit, who farmed near Saint-Hubert, married Josephine Sicotte. He ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Quebec assembly in 1871. In 1886, he resigned his seat to accept the post of superintendent for the Chambly Canal The Chambly Canal is a National Historic Site of Canada in the Province of Quebec, running along the Richelieu River past Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Carignan, and Chambly. Pierre Benoit (30 April 1824 – 26 August 1870) was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec. He practised his profession as a notary in Saint-Rémi, Quebec Saint-Rémi is a city in the province of Quebec, Canada. Located on the south-shore of the Saint Lawrence River and the Island of Montreal. Saint-Rémi is part of Les Jardins-de-Napierville Regional County Municipality, in the Montérégie admin ... from 1846 to 1861. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada for Napierville in a by-election in 1862, representing the Parti rouge; he was defeated in 1863. He was elected to the first Legislative Assembly of Quebec in the 1867 general election for the Quebec Liberal Party in Napierville. He died in office.
