''Pieris krueperi devta'', the green-banded white, is a small butterfly of the family Pieridae, that is, the yellows and whites. It is found in India and Pakistan. It is a subspecies of Krueper's small white (''Pieris krueperi''). Description Male upperside dead white. Forewing: a narrow band of irrorated black scales along basal portion of costa; a wedge-shaped short costal black spot before the apex; apex black; that colour continued along the anterior portion of the termen as a series of inwardly-pointed triangular coalescent spots at apices of veins 4 and 5; lastly, a large black spot in the outer half of interspace 3. Lionel De Nicéville
Charles Lionel Augustus de Nicéville (1852 in Bristol – 3 December 1901 in Calcutta from malaria) was a curator at the Indian Museum in Calcutta (now Kolkata). He studied the butterflies of the Indian Subcontinent and wrote a three volume monograph on the butterflies of India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Burma and Sri Lanka. ''Pieris'', the whites or garden whites, is a widespread now almost cosmopolitan genus of butterflies of the family Pieridae. The highest species diversity is in the Palearctic, with a higher diversity in Europe and eastern North America than the similar and closely related ''Pontia''. The females of many ''Pieris'' butterflies are UV reflecting, while the male wings are strongly UV absorbing due to pigments in the scales. Ecology Many species of this genus have caterpillars which feed on cabbage and other members of the Brassicaceae.
