Picoas (Lisbon Metro)
Picoas station is part of the Yellow Line of the Lisbon Metro, located on the north side of the city centre on Avenida Fontes Pereira de Melo. History Picoas is one of the 11 stations that belong to the original Lisbon Metro network, opened on December 29, 1959. The architectural design of the original station is by Falcão e Cunha. On November 9, 1982, the station was extended, based on the architectural design of Benoliel de Carvalho. On April 3, 1995, the station was refurbished, based on the architectural design of Dinis Gomes. Aeroporto is the terminal station on the Red Line of the Lisbon Metro. The station was built to serve Lisbon Airport. Cais do Sodré is a station on the Green Line of the Lisbon Metro. It is located in the Praça Duque da Terceira, connecting to the Cais do Sodré railway station and with a boat station (allowing for quick travel between Lisbon and Cacilhas, Seixal and Montijo. History This metro station was built by Pedro Botelho and Nuno Teotónio Pereira and the art work was done by António Dacosta, which left some of his drawings to be used in the station after his death, with some help from the painter Pedro Morais. Dinis Gomes
Denis (, ; 9 October 1261 – 7 January 1325 in Santarém), called the Farmer King (''Rei Lavrador'') and the Poet King (''Rei Poeta''), was King of Portugal. The eldest son of Afonso III of Portugal by his second wife, Beatrice of Castile, and grandson of Afonso II of Portugal, Denis succeeded his father in 1279. His marriage to Elizabeth of Aragon, who was later canonised as a saint of the Roman Catholic Church, was arranged in 1281 when she was 10 years old. Denis ruled Portugal for over 46 years. He worked to reorganise his country's economy and gave an impetus to Portuguese agriculture. He ordered the planting of a large pine forest (that still exists today) near Leiria to prevent the soil degradation that threatened the region and to serve as a source of raw materials for the construction of the royal ships.
