Philippines Men's National Basketball Team In FIBA Club Tournaments
The Philippines men's national basketball team has competed in FIBA competitions for basketball clubs such as the FIBA Asia Champions Cup. In such cases the national team competed, they played under a club name, usually after a sponsor. At the FIBA Asia Champions Cup in particular, privately sponsored national teams has competed in the tournament. In other cases the Philippines competed in the tournament, the country was represented by teams from the now defunct Philippine Basketball League and Metropolitan Basketball Association. No Philippine Basketball Association team has competed in the tournament until the 2018 edition when Meralco Bolts entered the continental club tournament. The team also competed one time at the 1985 FIBA Club World Cup. The 2005 FIBA Asia Champions Cup was the 16th staging of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, the basketball club tournament of FIBA Asia. The tournament was held for the first time in three cities: Quezon City, Pasay and Antipolo, in the Philippines from May 29 to June 5, 2005, with the Final being held in Araneta Coliseum. Al-Rayyan from Qatar became the second team to win multiple titles by first dethroning the defending three-time champion Sagesse from Lebanon in the thrilling overtime game in the Semifinals, and then surviving Fastlink from Jordan in the Finals. The Xinjiang Guanghui Flying Tigers () is a professional basketball team based in Ürümqi, Xinjiang, China. The team play its home games at the Hongshan Arena, which has a capacity for 3,800 spectators. Andray Maurice Blatche (born August 22, 1986) is an American-Filipino former professional basketball player. He played nine seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) between 2005 and 2014 before finishing his career with five seasons in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). The 2017 FIBA Asia Champions Cup was the 26th staging of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, the international basketball club tournament of FIBA Asia. The tournament took place in Chenzhou, China from 22 September to 30 September 2017. This was the second straight year that China hosted the tournament. Rajko Toroman ( sr-Cyrl, Рајко Тороман; born February 10, 1955) is a Serbian professional basketball coach. Coaching career Before 2016, he served as a team consultant for the Barako Bull Energy Cola and the Petron Blaze Boosters in the Philippine Basketball Association. Marcus Eugene Douthit (born April 15, 1980) is a Filipino-American former basketball player. He graduated from Providence College. After his stint with the Providence Friars, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2004 NBA draft. The FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2011 was the 22nd staging of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, the basketball club tournament of FIBA Asia. The tournament was held in Pasig, Philippines from May 28 to June 5, 2011. The event is co-organized by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and FIBA Asia. Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut, Al Riyadi from Lebanon, after going undefeated in the entire tournament, won its first ever Fiba Asia Champions Cup title after defeating Mahram Tehran from Iran in the final game.
