Petrota ( el, Πετρωτά) is a village at the northernmost point of Greece, part of the municipal unit Trigono. It was created around 1530 by Greeks that moved there from Epirus and Malta. In 1961 its population was 1,510. Trigono
Trígono ( el, Τρίγωνο, , meaning "triangle") is a former municipality in the Evros regional unit, East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform, it is part of the municipality Orestiada, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 392.538 km2. Its population is 5,370 (2011 census). The seat of the municipality was in Dikaia. The municipality was created in 1997 under the Capodistrian Plan. Trigono is the country's northernmost municipal unit, situated in the triangle between the rivers Evros and Ardas. It borders Bulgaria to the north and west, and Turkey to the northeast. The nearest cities are Svilengrad (Bulgaria) to the north, Edirne (Turkey) to the east, and Orestiada to the southeast. Evros ( el, Περιφερειακή ενότητα Έβρου) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of East Macedonia and Thrace. Its name is derived from the river Evros, which appears to have been a Thracian hydronym. Evros is the northernmost regional unit. It borders Turkey to the east, across the river Evros, and it borders Bulgaria to the north and the northwest. Its capital is Alexandroupolis. Orestiada
Orestiada ( el, Ορεστιάδα, formerly , ''Nea Orestiás''), is the northeasternmost, northernmost and newest city of Greece and the second largest town of the Evros regional unit of Thrace. Founded by Greek refugees from Edirne after the Treaty of Lausanne when the population exchange occurred between Turkey and Greece, in which the river Evros became the new border between the two countries.
