Peter Wegner (Australian Artist)
Peter Wegner (born 1953) is a Melbourne-based figurative painter, sculptor, and draughtsman. His work hangs in many galleries in Australia, and he is known for winning the Archibald Prize in 2021. Early life and education Peter Wegner was born in 1953. He gained a fine arts degree in 1985, and obtained a postgraduate diploma in 1988 from the Phillip Institute of Technology. In 2007 he completed a Master of Fine Arts at Monash University. Career After Wegner exhibited his work in a in group exhibition in 1977, having had no training in art, he was awarded a two-year A.M.E. Bale residential painting scholarship under Sir William Dargie. After gaining his degree and diploma, he started lecturing in the Drawing Department of Ballarat University, and has also since been a visiting lecturer at La Trobe, Monash and RMIT universities. Vincent Namatjira
Vincent Namatjira (born 14 June 1983) is an Aboriginal Australian artist living in Indulkana, in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY lands) in South Australia. He has won many art awards, and after being nominated for the Archibald Prize several times, he became the first Aboriginal person to win it in 2020. He is the great-grandson of the Arrente watercolour artist Albert Namatjira. Early life Namatjira was born on 14 June 1983 in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, and spent his early years in Hermannsburg. He is the great-grandson of renowned watercolour artist Albert Namatjira, and identifies as a Western Aranda man. Castlemaine Art Museum is an Australian art gallery and museum in Castlemaine, Victoria in the Shire of Mount Alexander. It was founded in 1913. It is housed in a 1931 Art Deco neo-classical building constructed for the purpose, heritage-listed by the National Trust. Its collection concentrates on Australian art and the museum houses historical artefacts and displays drawn from the district. The Heide Museum of Modern Art, also known as Heide, is an art museum in Bulleen, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Established in 1981, the museum houses modern and contemporary art across three distinct exhibition buildings and is set within sixteen acres of heritage-listed gardens and a sculpture park. The museum occupies the site of a former dairy farm owned by prominent arts benefactors John and Sunday Reed. The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) is a museum located in Hobart, Tasmania. The museum was established in 1846, by the Royal Society of Tasmania, the oldest Royal Society outside England. John Marsden (writer)
John Marsden (born 27 September 1950) is an Australian writer and unlicensed alternative school principal. Marsden's books have been translated into eleven languages. While working as a teacher, Marsden began writing for children, and had his first book, ''So Much to Tell You'', published in 1987. Since then, he has written or edited over 40 books and has sold over 5 million books throughout the world. In 2006, Marsden started an alternative school, Candlebark School in the Macedon Ranges. Marsden has since reduced his writing to focus on teaching and running the school. In 2016, he opened the arts-focused secondary school, Alice Miller School, also in the Macedon Ranges. He is also the patron of youth media organisation Express Media. He has no academic education in pedagogy and is not state licenced. Graeme Milbourne Clark AC (born 16 August 1935) is an Australian Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Melbourne. His work in ENT surgery, electronics and speech science contributed towards the development of the multiple-channel cochlear implant. His invention was later produced and sold by Cochlear Limited. Victor Smorgon (2 January 1913 – 3 July 2009) was an Australian industrialist, arts patron and benefactor, who was founder and former head of the Victor Smorgon Group. Biography Smorgon was born in 1913 in Heidelberg, a German settlement in Ukraine, then part of the Russian Empire. His father, Naum (Norman) Smorgon, ran a kosher butcher shop until the business was nationalized in 1927, with the Smorgon family emigrating to Australia later that year.
