Peter Toogood
Peter Alfred Toogood, (11 April 1930 – 5 June 2019) was an Australian amateur golfer from Tasmania. He won the Australian Amateur in 1954 and the Tasmanian Open eight times. He was the leading amateur in the 1954 Open Championship and was part of the team that won the inaugural Eisenhower Trophy in 1958. Early life Toogood was born in North Adelaide, South Australia on 11 April 1930. His father, Alf Toogood, had recently been appointed professional at The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide. He was the grandson of Alfred Toogood, Sr. As an 8-year-old he made a hole-in-one at the 7th hole at Kingston Beach Golf Club. Golf career Toogood was the leading amateur in the 1950, 1952, 1955, and 1957 Australian Opens, and in 1954 was leading amateur in The Open Championship. Earlier in 1954 he reached the last-16 of the Amateur Championship before losing to Joe Carr at the 20th hole. North Adelaide
North Adelaide is a predominantly residential precinct and suburb of the City of Adelaide in South Australia, situated north of the River Torrens and within the Adelaide Park Lands. History Surveyor-General Colonel William Light of the colony of South Australia completed the survey for the capital city of Adelaide by 10 March 1837. The survey included , including north of the River Torrens. This surveyed land north of the river became North Adelaide. North Adelaide was the birthplace of William Lawrence Bragg, co-recipient of the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1915. It contains many heritage-listed buildings, including the North Adelaide Post Office. Design North Adelaide consists of three grids of varying dimension to suit the geography. North Adelaide is surrounded by parklands, with public gardens between the grids. Australian Open (golf)
The Australian Open, owned and run by Golf Australia, is the oldest and most prestigious golf tournament on the PGA Tour of Australasia. The Open was first played in 1904 and takes place toward the end of each year. The winner of the tournament receives the ''Stonehaven Cup'', presented by Lord Stonehaven, the Governor-General of Australia from 1925 to 1930. It was first presented in 1930. Status The Australian Open is the "flagship tournament" of the PGA Tour of Australasia, and until 2022 had a special status in the Official World Golf Ranking's points system. This status awarded a minimum 32 points to the winner regardless of the strength of the field. The tournament was part of the OneAsia Tour from 2009 to 2016.
