Peter Sibbald
Major-General Peter Frank Aubrey Sibbald (24 March 1928 – 5 July 1994) was a British Army officer. Military career Educated at Haileybury, Sibbald was commissioned into the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry in 1948 and saw action during the Malayan Emergency and the Korean War. He became commanding officer of a battalion of The Light Infantry in 1968. He became Commander of 51st Gurkha Infantry Brigade in Hong Kong in 1972, Divisional Brigadier, Light Division in 1975 and General Officer Commanding North West District in 1977. His last appointment was as Director of Infantry in 1980 before retiring in 1983. The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by George I on 18 May 1725. The name derives from the elaborate medieval ceremony for appointing a knight, which involved bathing (as a symbol of purification) as one of its elements. The knights so created were known as "Knights of the Bath". George I "erected the Knights of the Bath into a regular Military Order". He did not (as is commonly believed) revive the Order of the Bath, since it had never previously existed as an Order, in the sense of a body of knights who were governed by a set of statutes and whose numbers were replenished when vacancies occurred. Major-General William Michael Ellis Hicks (2 June 1928 – 27 December 2008) was a British Army officer. Military career Educated at Eton College and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Hicks was commissioned into the Coldstream Guards in 1948. He became commanding officer of 1st Battalion the Coldstream Guards in 1970 and was deployed to Northern Ireland during the Troubles. He went on to be commander of the 4th Guards Armoured Brigade in Münster in 1974, Brigadier on the General Staff at UK Land Forces in 1976 and General Officer Commanding North West District in 1980 before retiring in 1983. Light Division (United Kingdom)
The Light Division was a light infantry division of the British Army. Its origins lay in "Light Companies" formed during the late 18th century, to move at speed over inhospitable terrain and protect a main force with skirmishing tactics. These units took advantage of then-new technology in the form of rifles, which allowed it to emphasise marksmanship, and were aimed primarily at disrupting and harassing enemy forces, in skirmishes before the main forces clashed. Formed in 1803, during the Napoleonic Wars, the Light Division was raised thrice thereafter: during the Crimean War, the First World War and from 1968 to 2007.
