Peter Röhlinger
Peter Röhlinger (born 8 February 1939) is a German politician and member of the Free Democratic Party. From 1990 to 2006 he was the mayor (''Oberbürgermeister'') of the city of Jena and from 2009 to 2013 he was an elected representative in the Bundestag. Personal life Röhlinger began his studies in veterinary medicine at the University of Leipzig in 1958, and following the successful completion of his exams in 1964 worked as a veterinarian in a state-owned veterinary practice. He was soon afterwards employed as a lecturer and scientist in the School for Veterinary Medicine (''Fachschule für Veterinärmedizin'') in Beichlingen. He later completed the promotion A and B from the University of Leipzig. Röhlinger is Catholic and has three children. 2013 German Federal Election
Federal elections were held on 22 September to elect the members of the 18th Bundestag of Germany. At stake were all 598 seats to the Bundestag, plus 33 overhang seats determined thereafter. The Christian Democratic Union of Germany/ Christian Social Union of Bavaria (CDU/CSU) of incumbent chancellor Angela Merkel won their best result since 1990 with nearly 42% of the vote and nearly 50% of the seats, just five short for an overall majority. The Free Democratic Party (FDP) failed to meet the 5% vote electoral threshold in what was their worst showing ever in a federal election, denying them seats in the Bundestag for the first time in their history. In many countries, a mayor is the highest-ranking official in a municipal government such as that of a city or a town. Albrecht Schröter
Albrecht Schröter (born 7 April 1955) is a German politician of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) who served as mayor (''Oberbürgermeister'') of Jena from 2006 to 2018. Early life and career Schröter attended the Polytechnic Secondary School from 1962 to 1972, but was denied an Abitur for political reasons. After leaving school, he completed a two and a half years of training as a nurse (''Krankenpfleger'') in Eberswalde and in Bad Freienwalde. He then studied and received a degree in Protestant theology at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg. After graduating in 1980, he worked as a research assistant at the theology section and as vicar of evangelical youth work until 1984, when we took over a parish in Jena (first at the Friedenskirche and from 1986-1997 in the Luthersprengel). Gera – Jena – Saale-Holzland-Kreis was one of the 299 single member constituencies used for the German parliament, the Bundestag. One of nine districts covering the state of Thuringia, it covered the cities of Gera and Jena and the Saale-Holzland district. The constituency was created for the 2005 election, expanding the Gera – Saale-Holzland-Kreis constituency by adding the city of Jena from the abolished Jena – Weimar – Weimarer Land constituency. Both the predecessor constituencies, which had been created for the 2002 election, had been won by the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), and they won the new constituency in the 2005 election. The FDP was founded in 1948 by members of former liberal political parties which existed in Germany before World War II, namely the German Democratic Party and the German People's Party.
