Peter Norburn
Peter Norburn (31 December 1930 – 6 June 2017) was an English extra (actor), window cleaner and professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. He played at representative level for England, English League XIII, and Lancashire, and at club level for Worsley Boys Club ARLFC, Swinton, and Salford, as a , or , i.e. number 2 or 5, or, 11 or 12. Playing career International honours Peter Norburn played right-, i.e. number 12 for English League XIII while at Swinton in the 19-8 victory over France at Headingley, Leeds on Wednesday 16 April 1958, and won a cap playing , i.e. number 2, and scored 4- tries for England while at Swinton in the 30-22 victory over Other Nationalities at Central Park, Wigan on Saturday 28 November 1953, equaling the England national team's record for the most tries by an individual in a match. Wigan
Wigan ( ) is a large town in Greater Manchester, England, on the River Douglas, Lancashire, River Douglas. Other Nationalities Rugby League Team
The Other Nationalities rugby league team are a rugby league representative team that usually consists of non-English players. They have also played under the name The Exiles and more recently Combined Nations All Stars. They competed in the first ever rugby league international in 1904, against , fielding players from Wales and Scotland. The team was later represented by players from Australia, Fiji, Ireland, New Zealand, and South Africa. The Other Nationalities team wore green shirts. History The team was formed to play England in one-off friendlies and did so until the 1930s. RFL Lancashire Cup
Historically, English rugby league clubs competed for the Lancashire Cup and the Yorkshire Cup, known collectively as the county cups. The leading rugby clubs in Yorkshire had played in a cup competition (affectionately known as ''t’owd tin pot'') for several years prior to the schism of 1895. However, the Lancashire authorities had refused to sanction a similar tournament, fearing it would lead to professionalism. After the split, the replacement for the Yorkshire Cup was not immediately introduced; however, new Yorkshire and Lancashire Cups were introduced in the 1905–06 season. The county cups were played on the same basis as the Challenge Cup, with an open draw and straight knock-out matches leading to a final. Initially, the 22 clubs that broke away in 1895 played in one combined league; however, the following season saw the addition of many clubs, and the League was split into two separate county competitions. 1972–73 Northern Rugby Football League Season
The 1972–73 Northern Rugby Football League season was the 78th season of rugby league football played in England. It would also be the last season whereby the British championship was decided by a play-off system until Super League III in 1998. Dewsbury were crowned champions after defeating Leeds in the Final. The 1972–73 season was also punctuated by the 1972 Rugby League World Cup which was played in France in October and November. At the end of this season the league re-formed into two divisions. 1905–06 Northern Rugby Football Union Season
The 1905–06 Northern Rugby Football Union season was the 11th season of rugby league football. Season summary Leigh won the Championship for the first time this season and Bradford their first Challenge Cup. The two divisions were combined into one competition, with Lancaster dropping out to reduce it to 31 teams. Clubs from the same county all played each other, and arranged inter-county matches as and when they could. Because not all clubs played the same number of matches positions were decided on percentages. Featherstone Rovers, who were an amateur team at this time knocked a professional side out of the Challenge Cup, when they beat Widnes 23-2 in the second round. There was no county league competition this season. The inaugural Rugby league county cups took place this season, and Wigan beat Leigh 0–0 (replay 8–0) to win the Lancashire Cup, and Hunslet beat Halifax 13–3 to win the Yorkshire County Cup.
