Peter John Murray (23 April 1920 – 20 April 1992) was a British art historian and the Professor of History of Art at Birkbeck College, London from 1967 to 1980. Together with his wife, Linda Murray, he wrote primers on Italian Renaissance art which have been used by generations of students. In 1959 they published the highly successful ''Penguin Dictionary of Art and Artists'', which was frequently updated and reissued. In 1963, they published two substantial introductory texts ''The Art of the Renaissance,'' and a book that became a classic primer ''The Architecture of the Renaissance''. Linda also wrote several books on her own, and completed their collaboration ''The Oxford Companion To Christian Art And Architecture'' (1996) after Peter died. He is an authority in the fields of evidence, comparative law, trial advocacy, comparative civil procedure, and admiralty law. Murray graduated from Harvard Law School (LL.B. magna cum laude, 1967). Peter Murray James, OBE (born 19 September 1925), known professionally as Pete Murray, is a British radio and television presenter and actor. He is known for his career with the BBC including stints on the Light Programme, Radio 1, Radio 2 and Radio 4. In the 1950s, Murray became one of Britain's first pop music television presenters, hosting the rock and roll programme ''Six-Five Special'' (1957–1958) and appearing as a regular panellist on ''Juke Box Jury'' (1959–1967). He was a recurring presence in the BBC's coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest. Murray returned to broadcasting for a Boom Radio special in December 2021, over 70 years after his career began. Pete Murray is an American musician and singer-songwriter. Starting his music career in the mid-1990s, he has been the lead vocalist for a number of bands, including nu metal band Ultraspank, hard rock band Lo-Pro, acoustic/electronic rock band Life On Planet 9, industrial rock band Chokt, and most recently, rock band White Noise Owl. Recording career Early years and Ultraspank Murray's first band was a speed metal band called Indica. While they did manage to earn the "MTV's Best College Rock Band of 1992" award, the band began to fall apart shortly after, leading some of the members, Murray included, to form a new band called "Spank". Unable to use the name due to copyright issues, the band changed their name to "Ultraspank" once they signed to a major record label. Sir Peter Edward Murray is the founder and executive director of Yorkshire Sculpture Park, now a sculpture venue with an international reputation. Biography He studied Fine Art and Education, teaching in General, Further and Higher Education. Until 1975 he exhibited frequently and has paintings, drawings and prints in several public and private collections. As Principal Lecturer in Art Education at Bretton Hall College, he founded Yorkshire Sculpture Park. He has contributed to International Sculpture Center conferences in Chicago, Pittsburg and Princeton. Peter Marshall Murray, M.D. (June 9, 1888 – December 19, 1969) was president of the National Medical Association from 1932 to 1933. Biography He was born on June 9, 1888, in Houma, Louisiana to John L. Murray and Louvinia Smith. He attended Dillard University and graduated in 1910. In 1914 he was awarded his M.D. from Howard University. He interned at Freedmen's Hospital and then taught at Howard University. He served on the Howard University Board of Trustees. He married Charlotte Wallace in Washington, DC on July 2, 1917. In 1920 they lived in the Truxton Circle neighborhood at 1645 New Jersey Ave NW with Charlotte's mother, her 23-year-old sister, and a live-in domestic servant. Peter Chapman Murray (23 January 1884 – 6 February 1968) was a New Zealand rugby union player and politician. He played one Test for New Zealand in 1908, and was chairman of the Waimarino County Council from 1918 to 1926. Early life and family Born at Southern Grove near Whanganui on 23 January 1884, Murray was the son of Elizabeth Murray (née Chapman) and her husband James Blair Murray. He was educated at Wanganui Collegiate School, and then farmed with his father at Southern Grove. From 1907 to 1911 he was manager of Paparangi station northwest of Whanganui, and then farmed at Raetihi. He married Gladys Amy Reed on 11 December 1912, and the couple had three daughters. Peter Murray-Rust (born 1941) is a chemist currently working at the University of Cambridge. As well as his work in chemistry, Murray-Rust is also known for his support of open access and open data. Education He was educated at Bootham School and Balliol College, Oxford.
