Ralph Pierre LaCock (born March 30, 1926), better known by his stage name Peter Marshall, is an American former game show host, television and radio personality, singer, and actor. He was the original host of ''The Hollywood Squares'' from 1966 to 1981 and has almost fifty television, movie, and Broadway credits. Marshall was given his stage name by John Robert Powers. Powers had chosen the last name Marshall for Peter's sister (who later chose to use Joanne Dru instead), and Peter adopted it early in his career and paired it with an anglicized version of his middle name. Early life Marshall was born Ralph Pierre LaCock on March 30, 1926, to Ralph and Jean LaCock, a show business family, in Huntington, West Virginia. Following his father's suicide when Marshall was ten, he moved to New York City to be with his mother, a costume designer. Peter Marshall (May 27, 1902 – January 26, 1949) was a Scottish-American preacher, pastor of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. and was appointed as Chaplain of the United States Senate. He is remembered popularly from the success of ''A Man Called Peter'' (1951), a biography written by his widow, Catherine Marshall, and the book's 1955 film adaptation, which was nominated for an Academy Award for its cinematography. Early life and education Born in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, Scotland, a poverty-stricken coal-mining community, where he was reared by his mother and stepfather. Peter Marshall (born 26 October 1964) is a Scottish historian and academic, known for his work on the Reformation and its impact on the British Isles and Europe. He is Professor of History at the University of Warwick. Biography Marshall was born on 26 October 1964 in Orkney, Scotland. He was educated at Kirkwall Grammar School, before studying at University College, Oxford. His doctoral thesis was titled ''Attitudes of the English People to Priests and Priesthood, 1500–1553''. Marshall began his career as a teacher: he was a history teacher at Ampleforth College, a Roman Catholic private school in North Yorkshire. In 1994, he joined the University of Warwick as a lecturer. Peter Brendon Marshall (born 1953) was the 31st New Zealand Commissioner of Police, serving from 4 April 2011 to 2 April 2014. He was previously Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force. Marshall is a career police officer who joined the New Zealand Police in 1972, and has worked both in uniform and as a detective with the Criminal Investigation Branch. Within New Zealand, he has served as head of the Hawkes Bay Armed Offenders Squad, and Area Commander in Hastings and Auckland City. Internationally he has been posted to the New Zealand diplomatic missions in Canberra from 1998 to 2002, and Washington, D.C. from 2002 to 2004, where he established a New Zealand Police liaison office for counter-terrorism. Peter Jerome Marshall (1940 – 20 June 2020) was an Anglican priest. He was born in 1940 in Buenos Aires, the son of the Rev Guy Marshall (subsequently Bishop in Venezuela) and Dorothy Whiting. Marshall was educated at St. John's School, Leatherhead, McGill University and Westcott House, Cambridge, following which he was ordained deacon in 1963 and priest in 1964. His first posts were curacies at East Ham and Woodford. After this he was the vicar of St Peter-in-the-Forest, Walthamstow then deputy director of training for the Diocese of Chelmsford and a canon residentiary at its Cathedral. Peter Marshall (1939–1972) was a British novelist. Life Peter Marshall was born in 1939. At 18 years old he became infected with polio, which left him almost completely paralyzed. He wrote an autobiography (''Two Lives'') about his life before and after the illness, for which he received the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize in 1963. He wrote two novels, ''The Raging Moon'' (1964) and ''Excluded from the Cemetery'' (1966). The movie ''The Raging Moon'' was based on his novel by the same title. He lived and worked in a home in Surrey. He died at age 33 in 1972. Peter Marshall (born 12 May 1971 in Nottingham, United Kingdom) is a former professional squash player from England. With his unique double-handed playing style, Marshall finished runner-up to the great Pakistani player Jansher Khan at the World Open in 1994 and the British Open in 1995. When he reached the World No. 2 ranking behind Jansher in November 1994, many observers felt he seemed a strong candidate to displace the aging Pakistani champion as World No. 1. However, in 1995, Marshall was afflicted with glandular fever, the effects of which meant he was unable to play top-level squash for two years.
