Peter Kelly (Irish Politician)
Peter Kelly (17 August 1944 – 2 January 2019) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician. He was a Teachta Dála A Teachta Dála ( , ; plural ), abbreviated as TD (plural ''TDanna'' in Irish, TDs in English), is a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas (the Irish Parliament). It is the equivalent of terms such as ''Member of Parli ... (TD) from 2002 to 2011. Biography Previously a funeral director and publican, Kelly was elected to Dáil Éireann for the Longford–Roscommon constituency at the 2002 general election. He was re-elected at the 2007 general election for the new Longford–Westmeath constituency. He was a member of Longford County Council from 1985 to 2003, and also previously served on Longford Town Council. He lost his seat at the 2011 general election. A Teachta Dála ( , ; plural ), abbreviated as TD (plural ''TDanna'' in Irish, TDs in English), is a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas (the Irish Parliament). The official translation of the term is "Deputy to the Dáil", although a more literal translation is "Assembly Delegate". Longford County Council ( ga, Comhairle Chontae an Longfoirt) is the authority responsible for local government in County Longford, Ireland. As a county council, it is governed by the Local Government Act 2001. The council is responsible for housing and community, roads and transportation, urban planning and development, amenity and culture, and environment. The council has 18 elected members. 2007 Irish General Election
The 2007 Irish general election took place on Thursday, 24 May after the dissolution of the 29th Dáil by the President on 30 April, at the request of the Taoiseach. The general election took place in 43 parliamentary constituencies throughout Ireland for 166 seats in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of parliament, with a revision of constituencies since the last election under the Electoral (Amendment) Act 2005. While Fine Gael gained 20 seats, Fianna Fáil remained the largest party.
