Peter Kavanagh (footballer)
Peter Kavanagh (1910–15 February 1993) was an Irish footballer who played for, among others, Bohemians and Celtic. Kavanagh was a dual internationalist and played for both Ireland teams – the IFA XI and the FAI XI. After leaving Celtic, Kavanagh had spells with several clubs before finishing his career with a works team prior to the Second World War. He eventually settled in Glasgow where he died on 15 February 1993. Club career Bohemians Kavanagh played junior football in the Drumcondra area of Dublin before signing for Bohemians in 1927. Bohs manager, an ex- Rangers player, Bobby Parker, put the teenage Kavanagh straight into the first team. Together with Jack McCarthy, Harry Cannon, Jimmy White, Jimmy Bermingham, Jeremiah Robinson and Christy Robinson, he was a prominent member of the successful amateur Bohs team during the late 1920s. Peter Kavanagh (19 March 1916 – 27 January 2006) was a writer, scholar, and publisher who collected, edited, and published the works of his brother, poet Patrick Kavanagh. Education Kavanagh was born in the Parish of Inniskeen, Ireland, the youngest of ten children. He attended the local schools, continued to secondary school, and upon receiving his diploma from the Patrician Brothers School in Carrickmacross, Kavanagh attended St. Patrick's Teachers College in Dublin, where he became a certified National Teacher (1936), graduated M.A. from the National University of Ireland (1941), and Ph.D. from Trinity College, Dublin in (1944). Scholarship Kavanagh began his writing career as the historian of the Irish theatre. His first publication, ''The Irish Theatre'' (1946), detailed the origins and development of theatre in Ireland. Peter Damian Kavanagh (born 1959) is a former Australian politician, teacher, barrister and legal academic, who served as a member of the Victorian Legislative Council representing the Democratic Labor Party (DLP). Early years Kavanagh was born into a family with a long connection with the DLP. His maternal grandfather, Bill Barry was a key player in the Australian Labor Party split that saw the creation of the original Democratic Labor Party – a party from which the current DLP has descended although is legally separate – to the extent the party was informally dubbed "Barry Labor" in its infancy. Peter Gerard Kavanagh (June 12, 1953 – September 7, 2016) was a Canadian radio producer, television producer, and writer with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and CBC Radio. Kavanagh was the creator of Canada Reads, an annual "battle of the books" competition which was first broadcast on CBC Radio in 2002. Kavanagh first conceived of the idea for what would become Canada Reads after learning of a similar program on public radio in the United States. On the Canada Reads program, five prominent Canadians, known as "advocates," each select a book. CBC Radio listeners then choose the winner. Past winners of the competition have included Michael Ondaatje, Joseph Boyden and Kim Thúy. Kavanagh was a co-producer on the first season of Canada Reads before leaving the show to pursue other CBC projects.
