Peter Jok
Kacoul Dut "Peter" Jok (born 30 March 1994) is a Sudanese professional basketball player who last played for Cholet Basket of the French LNB Pro A. He played college basketball for the University of Iowa of the Big Ten Conference. A 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m) swingman, Jok originates from Khartoum. Early life Jok was born and spent his childhood living in Khartoum, Sudan. When Peter was three years old, his father died as a general for the Sudan People's Liberation Army during the Second Sudanese Civil War. Peter's grandfather, the chief of their village, was also killed during the war. Growing up, Peter was solely exposed to association football, soccer, and had no experience with basketball. The family eventually fled to Uganda and then Kenya to escape the war. They joined many other Sudanese refugees in Des Moines, Iowa, which was where they moved to in December 2003. Iowa Hawkeyes Men's Basketball
The Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team is part of the University of Iowa athletics department. The Hawkeyes have played in 28 NCAA Tournaments, eight NIT Tournaments, won eight Big Ten regular-season conference championships and won the Big Ten tournament three times. Iowa has played in the Final Four on three occasions, reaching the semifinals in 1955 and 1980 and playing in the championship game against the University of San Francisco in 1956. Iowa basketball was widely successful in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s with a program resurgence under Lute Olson and the tenures of George Raveling and Tom Davis. Under Olson, the Hawkeyes won their last Big Ten regular season championship and went to the 1980 Final Four. They currently play in 15,400-seat Carver-Hawkeye Arena, along with Iowa women's basketball, wrestling, and volleyball teams.
