Peter Hederstedt
Colonel Lars Peter Mikael Hederstedt (born 29 August 1963) is a Swedish Army officer, currently serving as commander of the Western Military Region in Skövde since 2018. Hederstedt has a background in the Swedish special forces, and has served within '' Särskilda Skyddsgruppen'' (SSG) for 15 years, as deputy commander among other things. Hederstedt then served as the first commander of ''Särskilda operationsgruppen'' (SOG). He has also served in various staff positions at the Swedish Armed Forces Headquarters in Stockholm and abroad. Early life Hederstedt was born 29 August 1963 in Skövde, Sweden, the son of General Johan Hederstedt. Hederstedt did his mandatory military service at the Gotland Regiment (P 18) in Visby in 1983. In 1984 Hederstedt did his first United Nations peacekeeping mission in Cyprus, part of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), as a squad leader. Skövde
Skövde () is a locality and urban centre in Skövde Municipality and Västra Götaland County, in the Västergötland (Western Gothland region) in central Southern Sweden. Skövde is situated some 150 km northeast of Gothenburg, between Sweden's two largest lakes, Vänern and Vättern. Conscription In Sweden
Sweden has had mandatory military service ( sv, värnplikt) for men since 1901, replacing the previous allotment system that had been in use since the 17th century, although peacetime conscription was deactivated between 2010 and 2017. When peacetime conscription was mothballed in 2010, the law on conscription was simultaneously made gender-neutral. In 2017, the Swedish government decided to reactivate military conscription, referencing increased threats to national security. Swedish Parachute Ranger School
The Parachute Ranger School ( sv, Fallskärmsjägarskolan, FJS), is the Swedish Army's paratrooper ranger school and the home of ''Fallskärmsjägarna'' (Parachute Rangers) and ''Särskilda operationsgruppen'' (Special Operations Group). The school was founded in 1952 by captain Nils-Ivar Carlborg with the intention of creating and training small specialized units no bigger than platoons which were capable of operating deep behind enemy lines and inside enemy-controlled territory. The Life Regiment Hussars ( sv, Livregementets husarer; designated K 3) is one of the world's oldest regiments still active. The regiment descends directly from units set up by King Gustav I of Sweden (Gustav Vasa) in 1536, when Sweden set up a draft of horses and men north and south of Stockholm. The regiment was very active in the 1600s and 1700s and helped win several key battles for Sweden on the European continent.
