Peter H. Daly (U.S. Navy)
Peter Hasten Daly is a retired United States Navy vice admiral who served as Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff, U.S. Fleet Forces Command. He is currently the CEO of the United States Naval Institute. Personal life Daly was born in Chicago, Illinois. Daly graduated in 1977 from the College of the Holy Cross with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. In 1983 he earned a master's degree in Operations Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School. Career Upon graduation from College of the Holy Cross, Daly commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps. His sea duty assignments include as gunnery/anti-submarine officer and navigator; as chief engineer; and as executive officer aboard and . The title chief of staff (or head of staff) identifies the leader of a complex organization such as the armed forces, institution, or body of persons and it also may identify a principal staff officer (PSO), who is the coordinator of the supporting staff or a primary aide-de-camp to an important individual, such as a president, or a senior military officer, or leader of a large organization. In general, a chief of staff provides a buffer between a chief executive and that executive's direct-reporting team. The chief of staff generally works behind the scenes to solve problems, mediate disputes, and deal with issues before they are brought to the chief executive. Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps
The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) program is a college-based, commissioned officer training program of the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps. Origins A pilot Naval Reserve unit was established in September 1924 at St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland. It let the Navy test the concept before establishing its regular units. In 1926, the U.S. Department of the Navy established the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps. Its purpose was to produce a reserve of qualified officers who would be needed for a possible rapid expansion of the military in the case of an unforeseen emergency. A secondary objective was to acquaint college faculty and students with the Navy and its national importance. Ensign (; Late Middle English, from Old French (), from Latin (plural)) is a junior rank of a commissioned officer in the armed forces of some countries, normally in the infantry or navy. As the junior officer in an infantry regiment was traditionally the carrier of the ensign flag, the rank acquired the name. This rank has generally been replaced in army ranks by second lieutenant.
