Peter Downing
Peter Downing is an Albertan separatist and the former leader of Wexit Canada, now known as the Maverick Party. Downing founded Wexit Canada in the aftermath of Justin Trudeau's re-election in the 2019 Canadian federal election. Downing is also a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, serving from 2006 to 2015. He received a conditional discharge for uttering threats against his ex-wife in 2009. Downing stepped aside as leader of Wexit Canada in June after recruiting interim leader and former Conservative Member of Parliament Jay Hill. Downing was previously a candidate for the Christian Heritage Party of Canada in the 2015 Canadian federal election. Downing created two organizations, Alberta Fights Back and Saskatchewan Fights Back, both of which served as vehicles for his separatist activism. Separatists
Separatism is the advocacy of cultural, ethnic, tribal, religious, racial, governmental or gender separation from the larger group. As with secession, separatism conventionally refers to full political separation. Groups simply seeking greater autonomy are not separatist as such. Naomi Rankin (born c. 1953) is a Canadian politician and the leader of the Communist Party – Alberta since 1992. She is the longest-serving political party leader in the province, and has run as a perennial candidate in every federal and provincial election in Alberta since 1982. Political career Rankin became leader of the Communist Party in Alberta in 1992, after the collapse of the Soviet Union sent the party into crisis. Tim Uppal (born November 14, 1974) is a Canadian politician, banker, and radio host who is the member for Edmonton Mill Woods in the Parliament of Canada. He served as the Conservative Member of Parliament for Edmonton—Sherwood Park from 2008 to 2015. On July 15, 2013, Uppal was moved from Minister of State for Democratic Reform to the portfolio of Minister of State (Multiculturalism).
