Chiavenna
Chiavenna ( lmo, Ciavèna ; la, Clavenna; rm, Clavenna or ''Claven''; archaic german: Cläven or ''Kleven'') is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Sondrio in the northern Italian region of Lombardy. It is the centre of the Alpine Valchiavenna region. The historic town is a member of the Cittaslow movement. Geography Chiavenna is located about north of Milan and about northwest of Sondrio. Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi
Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi (, ; 12 January 1746 – 17 February 1827) was a Swiss pedagogue and educational reformer who exemplified Romanticism in his approach. He founded several educational institutions both in German- and French-speaking regions of Switzerland and wrote many works explaining his revolutionary modern principles of education. His motto was "Learning by head, hand and heart". Thanks to Pestalozzi, illiteracy in 18th-century Switzerland was overcome almost completely by 1830. Max Pestalozzi (1857 in Zurich – 1925 in Zurich) was a Swiss chess master. Son of Adolf Salomon, banker, and Magdalena Berta Schulthess. He was a mathematician until 1889. From 1889 to 1921 he worked for the Swiss Railways. He was co-founder and first president of the '' Schachgesellschaft Zürich'', the oldest chess club in the world. The Pestalozzi-Stiftung Hamburg ("Pestalozzi foundation Hamburg") is a social and charitable organization founded in 1847 in Hamburg, German Confederation. Over a period of more than hundred years, the organisation ran a children's foster home which changed its location several times within Hamburg. Constant adjustments have taken place over the last decades. Recently, the organisation has maintained facilities and projects in many parts of Hamburg and to a lesser extent in Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen) and Schleswig-Holstein. Kinderdorf Pestalozzi () is a non-profit organization located in Trogen, Canton Appenzell. It was named after the Swiss education pioneer Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi. Established in 1945, the Stiftung Kinderdorf Pestalozzi provides the ''Kinderdorf'' village for war-affected children from all over the world. History and objectives In August 1944 Walter Robert Corti launched in the monthly magazine " ''Du''" a call for the foundation of a village for orphans of World War II. Stiftung Pestalozzianum is a foundation based in Zürich named after the Swiss education pioneer Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi. Formerly named Pestalozzianum, between 1875 and 2002 it operated with the objective to promote the school teacher's instruction and postgraduate training.
