Perera ( si, පෙරේරා) is a common surname found in Sri Lanka and the Iberian Peninsula. The name was introduced in Sri Lanka by the Portuguese during the period of Portuguese Ceylon, and it derives from the common Portuguese surname Pereira (meaning pear tree). Lionello Perera
Lionello Arturo Lopes Perera ( Leone Arturo Perera Lopez; June 25, 1871 – April 26, 1942) was a banker, philanthropist and patron of the arts and music, active in New York at the beginning of the 20th century. Lionello Perera was born and grew up in Venice, Italy. He studied commerce there, and then emigrated to the USA at the invitation of his uncle, the banker Salvatore Cantoni. He continued his career in New York where he participated in the foundation of Bank of America together with Amadeo Peter Giannini. Furthermore, Lionello founded and was involved in many charities which gave aid to Italian immigrants on the East Coast. Frederica Perera (born 1941) is an American environmental health scientist and the founder of the Columbia Center for Children's Environmental Health at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. Her research career has focused on identifying and preventing harm to children from prenatal and early childhood exposure to environmental chemicals and pollutants. Sylvia Brinton Perera is an author and a Jungian analyst. Life and career Professional Qualified as a Jungian analyst, Perera is in private practice, counseling as a psychotherapist. Cheryl Perera (born 1986) is a Canadian children's rights activist. As a teenager, she founded OneChild, a non-governmental organization which seeks to eliminate the commercial sexual exploitation of children abroad. For her work, and in particular her achievements at a young age, Perera has received several accolades. Izidor Perera-Matić
Izidor Perera-Matić (2 July 191224 January 1944) was a Yugoslav physician and member of the Partisan resistance movement. Perera-Matić was born in Vela Luka to a Sephardic-Jewish family. He finished elementary and high school in Vela Luka, and Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zagreb. In 1937, he was employed as Obrovac county physician. During World War II, in 1941, he was arrested together with his father David for being Jewish. Because of him being physician, Perera-Matić and his father were released.
