Algama Koralalage Lionel Kumaradasa Perera (24 March 1935 – 18 May 2008 si, ලයනල් අල්ගම), popularly known as Lionel Algama was a Sri Lankan singer, composer and a musician. Considered one of the most respected musicians in Sinhala song, Algama is most notable for the invention of a musical instrument known as ‘Sri Veena’. Personal life Somapala was born on 24 March 1935 in Brandiamulla, Gampaha, Sri Lanka. His father Jinadasa Perera, was a rich landowner in Kurunegala who ran a trading business. He first went to school at Brandiamulla Church in Gampaha and then studied at Veyangoda Central College. Lionel's grandfather worked as the manager of the Kahatagaha mine owned by Sir John Kotelawala. From then on they chose Banduragoda, Kurunegala for their residence. Gampaha (Sinhala: ගම්පහ ; Tamil: கம்பஹா ) is an urban city in Gampaha District, Western Province, Sri Lanka. It is situated to the north-east of the capital Colombo. It is the sixth largest urban area in Western Province, after Colombo, Negombo, Kalutara, Panadura and Avissawella. Gampaha is also the second largest municipal centre in Gampaha district, after Negombo. Gampaha has a land area of and is home to the offices of 75 government institutions. Hettipathirannehelage Dayananda Gunawardena ( Sinhala: දයානන්ද ගුනවර්ධන) (15 October 1934 – 24 June 1993), better known as Dayananda Gunawardena, was a Sri Lankan playwright, actor, lyricist, dramatist, radio play producer, and Sinhala Radio Play writer. Early life Dayananda Gunawardena was born in Halgampitiya, Udugampola in Sri Lanka. His father, Don Simon, was an English teacher. Gunawardena completed his schooling at the Ugampola Government School (1943–46) and continued his education at the Veyngoda Government Secondary School (1946–51). Beginning in 1951, he attended Ananda College in Colombo. While at school, he was active in many societies such as the drama society, in which he acted as the Junior Cadet Captain, and won the trophy of "best cadet". Rita Ganguly is an exponent in the Indian classical arts. An accomplished dancer, musician and vocalist, she was honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2000 and with the Padma Shri in 2003.
