Pepperland (album)
is the seventh studio album by Japanese singer/songwriter Chisato Moritaka, released on November 18, 1992, by Warner Music Japan. Named after a small music hall (itself named after the orchestral piece from '' Yellow Submarine'') in Kumamoto where Moritaka started playing music, the album marked a shift in musical direction in her career, as she became more engaged in playing musical instruments such as drums, rhythm guitar, bass, and piano. It also has a more stripped-down sound in comparison to Moritaka's previous albums. ''Pepperland'' is the only studio album in Moritaka's catalog to not have any singles. The album reached No. 5 on Oricon's albums chart and sold over 197,000 copies. It was also certified Gold by the RIAJ. Rhodes Piano
The Rhodes piano (also known as the Fender Rhodes piano) is an electric piano invented by Harold Rhodes, which became popular in the 1970s. Like a conventional piano, the Rhodes generates sound with keys and hammers, but instead of strings, the hammers strike thin metal tines, which vibrate next to an electromagnetic pickup. The signal is then sent through a cable to an external keyboard amplifier and speaker. The instrument evolved from Rhodes's attempt to manufacture pianos while teaching recovering soldiers during World War II. Development continued after the war and into the following decade. In 1959, Fender began marketing the Piano Bass, a cut-down version; the full-size instrument did not appear until after Fender's sale to CBS in 1965. Carnation (Japanese Band)
is a Japanese rock band founded by Masahiro Naoe in 1983. During their heyday, they were dubbed "the Japanese XTC" due to their similar styles. History Masahiro Naoe (then known as Masataro Naoe) formed the band in 1981. In December 1983, the band was renamed "Carnation" and released their first independent single " Yoru no Entotsu" a year later. The band released their first full album ''Young Wise Men'' in 1988. Hideo Saitō (musician, Born 1958)
, is a Japanese musician and composer, best known for his collaborations with Chisato Moritaka from 1987 to 1995. He is also the producer of the musical cat group Musashi's. Career After graduating from Keio University, Saitō formed the band "You" in 1980 before pursuing a career as a music producer. Since his work on Chisato Moritaka's debut album '' New Season'', he has composed more than 60 songs for her. He has also played guitar in over 1,000 recordings for different artists. In 1993, Saitō became the first Japanese composer to release songs in South Korea. Saitō served as a judge in the NTV talent show from 2005 to 2010. There, he discovered Koji Higashino on the March 3, 2010 episode. In June 2010, Saitō joined keyboardist Minoru Mukaiya and vocalist Keizo Nakanishi in the band as guitarist and producer. is a rockabilly song by Japanese singer/songwriter Chisato Moritaka, from her 1992 studio album '' Pepperland''. Written by Moritaka, the song was released as the B-side of her 1993 single " Watashi no Natsu". Background The song's lyrics consist of Japan's prefectures and their capitals, as well as their respective dishes. It popularized the dishes shimotsukare and shiroshita karei, which were not well-known nationwide prior to the release of the song. At the time of the song's recording, Urawa was the capital of Saitama Prefecture; in 2001, Urawa, Ōmiya, and Yono merged into the new capital of Saitama City. Moritaka's live performances and cover versions of the song have since corrected the line from "Urawa" to "Saitama" to reflect the capital change. The song has been used by some junior high schools to educate students on their Japanese geography. On live shows, Moritaka occasionally performs the song on guitar or drums.
