Pennsylvania Route 339 (PA 339) is a , north–south state highway located in Schuylkill, Columbia, and Luzerne counties in Pennsylvania. The southern terminus is at PA 54 in Mahanoy City. The northern terminus is at PA 93 in Nescopeck. The route is a two-lane road that passes through mountainous areas in the eastern part of the state. PA 339 runs north through the Coal Region to Brandonville, where it heads northwest to follow the Catawissa Creek to Mainville. From Mainville, the route passes through farmland to Mifflinville, where it follows the Susquehanna River to Nescopeck. PA 339 forms a concurrency with PA 924 in Brandonville and has an interchange with Interstate 80 (I-80) in Mifflinville. Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania
Mahanoy City (pronounced MAHA-noy, also MA-noy locally) is a borough located southwest of Wilkes-Barre and 13 miles southwest of Hazleton, in northern Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. It is part of the Coal Region of Pennsylvania and is located entirely within, but is not part of, Mahanoy Township. The name Mahanoy is believed to be a variation of the Native American word ''Maghonioy'', or "the salt deposits". The Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad , sometimes shortened to Reading and Northern Railroad, is a regional railroad in eastern Pennsylvania. Its headquarters is in Port Clinton. Benton is a borough in Columbia County, Pennsylvania. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The population was 824 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Bloomsburg– Berwick Micropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Benton is located in northern Columbia County at (41.196144, -76.383354). It is surrounded by Benton Township, a separate municipality. According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of , of which is land and , or 2.96%, is water. Fishing Creek, a south-flowing tributary of the Susquehanna River, runs through the eastern part of Benton. History The Benton area was first settled by two families in 1792.
