Penlan
Penlan is a suburban area of Swansea, Wales in the Penderry ward. The area is set on top of a hill, which overlooks Townhill, Kilvey Hill and Swansea Bay. Leisure Local amenities include the Penlan leisure centre, which incorporates a swimming pool and sports hall, and the Penlan Library.. Transport The headquarters of the main public transport company serving South West Wales, First Cymru, is located here. Penderry
Penderry ( cy, Penderi) is the name of an electoral ward and a community in the City and County of Swansea, Wales, UK. Penderry does not have a community council. Penderry is bordered by the wards of Mynydd-Bach to the east; Cockett and Cwmbwrla to the south; and Kingsbridge, Penllergaer and Llangyfelach to the north. For the purposes of local council elections, the ward is divided up into a number of polling districts, which are: Blaen-y-Maes, Caereithin, Mynydd Cadle, Penlan West, Penlan East and Clwyd. Penderry returns three councillors to the local council. The current councillors representing Penderry are: June Burtonshaw (Labour), Doreen Jones (Labour) and Grenville Phillips (Labour). Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryn Tawe
Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryn Tawe is a Welsh-language comprehensive school based in Penlan, Swansea , southwest Wales. It opened in 2003 to complement Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr and to provide additional capacity following the increased demand for Welsh-medium education in the area. Upon its opening, it held only its own fresh intake, taking none of Gwyr's existing pupils. As a result, the school only reached its full complement of years 7-11 (ages 11–16) with its fifth intake of September 2007. As of September 2012 it has approximately 900 pupils on roll. The site was previously occupied by Penlan Senior Comprehensive school for boys which had been attended by Welsh international rugby union players. Townhill is the name of a hill, a residential district and a community (civil parish) and electoral ward in Swansea, Wales, UK. It had a population of 8,696 in 2011. Kilvey Hill
Kilvey Hill (Welsh: ''Mynydd Cilfái'' or ''Y Bigwrn'') is a hill in South Wales, to the east of Swansea. Kilvey Hill is high and is classed as a Sub Marilyn. The top of Kilvey Hill enjoys panoramic views of Swansea city centre, Swansea Docks, Swansea Bay, the Lower Swansea Valley, Bon-y-maen, Neath and Port Talbot. Cilfái was a commote of Gower. Swansea Bay ( cy, Bae Abertawe) is a bay on the southern coast of Wales. The River Neath, River Tawe, River Afan, River Kenfig and Clyne River flow into the bay. David Jenkins (composer)
David Jenkins (30 December 1848 – 10 December 1915) was a Welsh composer, best known for his choral works and hymn tunes. Born at Trecastle near Brecon, Jenkins was apprenticed to a tailor at a young age, due to the death of his father. He did not take an interest in music until he was nine years old. At the time, Jenkins was a member of a choir which was to compete in a local Eisteddfod. At age sixteen, his musical interest deepened and Jenkins began serious study of the Tonic-Solfa system. Two years later, he received an advanced certificate from the Tonic-Solfa college and began conducting his own choir. At age 20, Jenkins and his choir won a competition at Llanddeusant. He next turned his attention to the study of composition, harmony and counterpoint and was awarded a prize for the best anthem from the Tonic-Solfa college. Communities First
Communities First was a Welsh Government programme aimed at reducing poverty. The programme was community focused and supported the most disadvantaged people in the most deprived areas of Wales with the aim of contributing to alleviating persistent poverty. History The original Communities First Programme was launched in 2001 as the flagship Welsh Government Programme to tackle poverty in the most disadvantaged areas in Wales.
