Pelion Range
The Pelion Range is a mountain range in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, Tasmania, Australia. The range is named after Mount Pelion in Greece. The Overland Track passes over the range through the Pelion Gap and consequently several peaks are popular walks. The range features a number of the highest mountains in Tasmania, including the state's highest peak, Mount Ossa, with an elevation of above sea level. The range is mainly composed of Jurassic Dolerite. Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park
Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park is located in the Central Highlands area of Tasmania (Australia), northwest of Hobart. The park contains many walking trails, and is where hikes along the well-known Overland Track usually begin. Major features are Cradle Mountain and Barn Bluff in the northern end, Mount Pelion East, Mount Pelion West, Mount Oakleigh and Mount Ossa in the middle and Lake St Clair in the southern end of the park. Diabase (), also called dolerite () or microgabbro, is a mafic, holocrystalline, subvolcanic rock equivalent to volcanic basalt or plutonic gabbro. Mount Ossa (Tasmania)
Mount Ossa is the highest mountain in Tasmania, with a summit elevation of above sea level. It makes up part of the Pelion Range within Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park in the Central Highlands region of Tasmania, Australia. Overland Track
The Overland Track is an Australian Backpacking (wilderness), bushwalking track, traversing Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, within the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Pelion Gap
Pelion Gap ( or ) is the mountain pass between Mount Doris and Mount Ossa to the south and Mount Pelion East to the north through which the Overland Track in Tasmania passes. This is a popular resting place for walkers on the Overland Track as it is the highest point between Pelion Hut and Kia Ora Hut, is approximately halfway between the two and also has a large wooden platform surrounded by log seating.
