The Peer Gynt Road (Norway: ''Peer Gynt Vegen'') is a 60-kilometre-long tourist mountain road, named for the folkloric character Per Gynt. It is a toll road. It runs in the east of Norway in Innlandet county with views of Jotunheimen, along the villages Skeikampen, Fagerhøy, Gålå Gålå is a village in Sør-Fron Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. Per Gynt
Per Gynt (, ) is a Scandinavian folklore, Norwegian fairy tale which originated in the Districts of Norway, traditional region of Gudbrandsdal. The story of Per Gynt is set in the Districts of Norway, historic district of Gudbrandsdal in Norway. Per Gynt's home in the folklore is traditionally claimed to have been Nordre Hågå farm in Sødorp parish at Nord-Fron in the county of Oppland. The tales encompass the themes of identity, relationships and personal stories from a lonely hunter. The folk tale tells of the eponymous Per Gynt and his various exploits. He rescues three dairy-maids from trolls and shoots the Bøyg, a troll which takes the form of a gigantic serpent and stands as a hindrance to travellers. The fairy tale was recorded by Peter Christen Asbjørnsen in ''Norwegian Folktales'' (''Norske Huldre-Eventyr og Folkesagn'') which was first published in 1845. Innlandet
Innlandet is a county in Norway. It was created on 1 January 2020 with the merger of the old counties of Oppland and Hedmark (the municipalities of Jevnaker and Lunner were transferred to the neighboring county of Viken on the same date). The new county has an area of , making it the second largest county in Norway after Troms og Finnmark county. The county name translates to "The Inland" which reflects that the county is the only landlocked county in Norway. The county covers approximately 17% of the total area of the mainland area of Norway. It stretches from the Viken county and the Oslo region in the south to Trøndelag county in the north. Jotunheimen
Jotunheimen (; "the home of the Jötunn") is a mountainous area of roughly in southern Norway and is part of the long range known as the Scandinavian Mountains. The 29 highest mountains in Norway are all located in the Jotunheimen mountains, including the tall mountain Galdhøpiggen (the highest point in Norway). The Jotunheimen mountains straddle the border between Innlandet and Vestland counties (historically part of the old Oppland and Sogn og Fjordane counties). Tourism Jotunheimen is very popular with hikers and climbers, and the Norwegian Mountain Touring Association maintains a number of mountain lodges in the area, as well as marked trails that run between the lodges and others that run up to some of the peaks. Skeikampen
Skeikampen is a mountain located in Gausdal Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The tall mountain is located about to the northwest of the village of Svingvoll. The area is heavily dependent on recreation which is dominated by the Skeikampen Alpine Centre plus hundreds of holiday cottages. Attractions The Skeikampen Alpine Centre is located on the montain and it offers both ski lifts and pistes. The first cross-country tourists arrived in 1895 and the first ski lift was built in 1959. The centre is now one of Norway's largest skiing facilities. The area also has an 18-hole golf course. Tourists travel to Lillehammer, the regional transportation hub, before taking local transportation to Skeikampen. Local buses offer several daily bus departures to Skeikampen. Gålå
Gålå is a village in Sør-Fron Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The village is located in the Gudbrandsdal valley, about to the southwest of the village of Hundorp. Gålå is located on the eastern shore of the lake Gålåvatnet. Gålå is located on a mountain plateau that sits about above sea level. There are two main roads that connect Gålå to the rest of Sør-Fron. The main road is a fully maintained road that heads north to Harpefoss. The other road is the Peer Gynt Road (''Peer Gyntveien''). That mountain road is only open in the summer months.
