Pedro Edmunds Paoa
Pedro Pablo ''Petero'' Edmunds Paoa (born 1 July 1961) is a Chilean politician. He serves as mayor of Rapa Nui (Easter Island) Commune. He was previously the Governor of the Easter Island Province from March 2010 to August 2010. His first term as mayor of Easter Island was between 1994 and 2008, and he was member of the Christian Democratic Party. Currently he is member of the Progressive Party. He is a supporter of the island autonomy from ValparaÃso region, saying this would allow islanders to handle the problems locally rather than rely on an official "''more than 4000 kilometers and you do not know the island''". Carmen Cardinali
Carmen Cardinali Paoa (born 21 June 1944) is a Rapa Nui people, Rapa Nui Chilean professor. She served as the governor of Easter Island (Rapa Nui) in the government of president Sebastián Piñera, between 2010 and 2014. A native of the island, Cardinali hasworked as a professor in Santiago, Chile, Santiago and also in Easter Island's tourism industry. Cardinali's predecessor, former Governor Pedro Edmunds Paoa, resigned in early August 2010 following the occupation of six buildings by protesters who demanded the return of land to the descendants of the island's indigenous Polynesians, Polynesian inhabitants. Lawyer Jorge Miranda was appointed as interim Governor until a replacement could be found. The Constitutional Convention () was the constituent body of the Republic of Chile in charge of drafting a new Political Constitution of the Republic after the approval of the national plebiscite held in October 2020. Its creation and regulation were carried out through Law No. 21,200, published on 24 December 2019, which amended the Political Constitution of the Republic to include the process of drafting a new constitution. Tiare Maeva Carolina Aguilera Hey is a Rapa Nui attorney and politician. In 2021, she was elected to represent the Rapa Nui people in the Chilean Constitutional Convention. Early life and legal career Tiare Aguilera was born and raised on the island of Rapa Nui, commonly known in English as ''Easter Island''. 2021 Chilean Constitutional Convention Election
An election for the members of the Constitutional Convention was held in Chile between 15 and 16 May 2021. This election was called after 78% of voters in the 2020 national plebiscite voted to write a new Constitution through this method. After massive protests and riots sparked in October 2019, an agreement was reached on 15 November 2019 between several political parties to start the process to write a new Constitution. In case the first referendum was approved (originally scheduled for 26 April 2021), a special election would be called to select the members of the Constitutional Convention. This election was originally scheduled for 25 October 2020, six months after the first referendum. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Chile, the first referendum was moved to 25 October and the eventual election of the members of the Convention was scheduled for 11 April 2021.
