Pedjuang
''Warriors for Freedom'' ( id, Pedjuang) is a 1960 Indonesian drama film directed by Usmar Ismail. It was entered into the 2nd Moscow International Film Festival where Bambang Hermanto won the Silver Prize for Best Actor. Plot Circa 1947, a platoon led by Letnan Amin (Rendra Karno) receives an assignment to hold a strategically important bridge. These troops are supported by a number of refugees, among them Irma (Chitra Dewi), a middle-class child cynical about the fight for independence. Amin and Irma are in a secret relationship; Sergeant Major Imron (Bambang Hermanto) also has an interest towards Irma. When Amin is injured, Imron is assigned to lead the troops away from Dutch-held territory, which is accomplished. Corporal Seno (Bambang Irawan) suspects Imron of wanting Amin out of the way to get Irma. Lies Noor
Eliza Firmansjah "Lies" Noor (12 July 1943 – 14 March 1961) was an Indonesian actress and model. Rising to popularity after her appearance in 1952's ''Pulang'' (''Homecoming''), directed by , by 1955 Noor was able to demand fees of Rp 10,000 (USD ) for her film appearances. She went on hiatus from acting after giving birth to her only child, later returning to cinema in 1960 with '' Pedjuang'' (''Warriors for Freedom''). Noor died of encephalitis on March 14, 1961, and was buried in Karet Bivak Cemetery. She was the part of Classical Indonesian Cinema. Chitra Dewi
Rara Patma Dewi Tjitrohadiseikusumo (26 January 1930 – 28 October 2008), best known under her stage name Chitra Dewi, was an Indonesian film actress and director. She was noted for her roles in Usmar Ismail's films of the 1950s, appearing in films such as ''Tamu Agung'' (''Exalted Guest'', 1955), ''Tiga Dara'' (''Three Maidens'', 1956), and '' Pedjuang'' (''Warriors for Freedom'', 1960), although she remained active in cinema until 1993 and won a Citra Award for Best Supporting Actress at the 1979 Indonesian Film Festival for '' Gara-gara Isteri Muda'' (''Because of a Young Wife'', 1977). Dewi also had a brief stint film directing in 1971, making her one of only four Indonesian women to direct a film before 1998. Rendra Karno
Raden Soekarno ( Perfected Spelling: Sukarno; 7 May 1920 – 27 November 1985), better known as Rendra Karno, was an Indonesian actor. Born in Kutoarjo, Central Java, Soekarno entered the film industry in 1941, making his debut appearance in Union Films' '' Soeara Berbisa''. Over the next forty years he appeared in more than fifty films. He was also involved in the theatre during the Japanese occupation of the Dutch East Indies and the Indonesian National Revolution. Usmar Ismail (20 March 1921 – 2 January 1971) was an Indonesian film director, author, journalist and revolutionary of Minangkabau descent. He was widely regarded as the native Indonesian pioneer of the cinema of Indonesia. Biography Ismail was born in 1921 in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra. His father, Datuk Tumenggung Ismail, taught at the medical school in Padang. His brother Abu Hanifah was also a well-known revolutionary and writer. Ismail attended ASM-A Yogyakarta and later obtained a B.A. in cinematography from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1952. Ismail initially served in the army during the Dutch colonial rule. He served in the Indonesian army in Yogyakarta.
