''Pebbles'' (Tamil: ''Koozhangal'') is a 2021 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by debutant PS Vinothraj. The film was produced by Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara under the Rowdy Pictures banner. Featuring music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, the film had cinematography handled by Jeya Parthipan and Vignesh Kumulai and was edited by Ganesh Siva. ''Pebbles'' was screened at the 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam held in Netherlands on 4 February 2021, where it received the Tiger Award at the festival. It was selected as the Indian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards, but was not nominated. and will also be screened at 52nd International Film Festival of India in 'Indian Panorama' section, feature film category. P. S. Vinothraj (born 18 June 1988) is a Tamil film director and screenwriter. He wrote and directed the critically-acclaimed Tamil film, '' Pebbles'' (''Koozhangal'') which is also his debut film. ''Pebbles'' was screened at the 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam held in Netherlands on 4 February 2021, where it received the Tiger Award at the festival. It is the second Indian film to win this prestigious award. It was selected as the Indian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards, but was not nominated. Early life P. S. Vinothraj was born on 18 June 1988 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Vinothraj's father, Palani, died when Vinothraj was nine. He had to drop out of school and work in the flower markets of Madurai as a daily wage labourer carrying heavy bundles of flowers. Baradwaj Rangan
Baradwaj Rangan is an Indian film critic, writer, and formerly the deputy editor of ''The Hindu''. He later became a senior editor of Film Companion. Rangan won the National Film Award for Best Film Critic in 2006. Before joining ''The Hindu'', Rangan wrote for ''The New Indian Express''. He has also authored two books, worked as a screenwriter, and is a teacher at the Asian College of Journalism, Chennai. Career Baradwaj Rangan had no formal training in filmmaking or cinema writing. He is a chemical engineering graduate from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. According to him, it was a time when "parents considered only medicine or engineering" to be "serious professions", that he did not have interest but continued with it anyway. The 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam, was the 2021 installment of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, which took place on 1–7 February 2021 and 2–6 June 2021.
