Pavel Kolendas
Pavel Kolendas (Павел Колендас) was a Russian painter who lived and worked in Pereslavl-Zalessky. Kolendas was born in about 1820. A handful of portraits by his hand, held in the museum of Pereslavl-Zalessky, survive, including portraits of the 1840s children of local workers. His works fall into the category of Russian art known as “parsuna”, which bridged the worlds of religious and personal portraiture, as Russian painters began adopting the portrait painting styles of Western European salons. His style has been compared, albeit less favorably, to similar works by Grigory Ostrovsky and Nikolay Mylnikov (painter), Nikolay Mylnikov. Grigory Ostrovsky
Grigory Silovich Ostrovsky (1756–1814) was a Russian portrait Painting, painter active during the 18th century in the Kostroma Governorate. Career Almost nothing is known of Ostrovsky's life, and little is known about his career; the only paintings which can be definitively traced to him are 17 signed and dated portraits which were discovered in the 1970s by Savva Yamshchikov. All of the paintings were made in the 1770s and 1780s and come from the Neronovo estate, located about 25 km SE of Soligalich. In the eighteenth century this belonged to the Cherevin family, and most of the portraits are of members of the family. Stylistically, the paintings appear to be the work of an itinerant painter; there is a possibility, too, that he may have studied icon painting. Presumably, Ostrovsky originally was from Veliky Ustyug. Ostrovsky's paintings are currently held by the Soligalich Regional Studies Museum in Soligalich. Nikolay Mylnikov (painter)
Nikolay Dmitrievich Mylnikov (russian: Никола́й Дмитриевич Мы́льников; born Yaroslavl, 1797 – died there, 1842) was a Russian portrait painter active during the nineteenth century in the Yaroslavl Governorate. Together with Grigory Ostrovsky and Ivan Tarkhanov, Mylnikov belongs to a group of "naive" portrait painters from the Upper Volga region that was rediscovered by Savva Yamshchikov in the 1970s.
