Paul West (26 January 1871 – 30 October 1918) was an American playwright, lyricist, newspaper editor, journalist, screenwriter, author, and talent agent. After working as a journalist in Massachusetts from 1888 to 1892, he began his career in the theatre as a press representative for Charles H. Hoyt; followed by a season as the business manager for the opera singer and actress Camille D'Arville and the comedian Frank Daniels. From 1898 to 1911 he worked on the editorial staff ''The New York Sunday World'' during which time be began a career as a prolific lyricist for both Broadway theatre, Broadway musicals and Tin Pan Alley publishers of popular song; publishing more the 500 songs during his lifetime. He also worked as a playwright, penning both plays and the books for several musicals. More than 15 of his stage works were mounted on Broadway between the years 1902–1913. Paul West (August 27, 1911 – June 15, 1998) was an American writer who penned works for radio and television. He should not be confused with the American playwright and screenwriter Paul West (1871–1918) or the British-born American novelist, essayist, and poet Paul West (1930–2015). Life and career Born in David City, Nebraska, Paul West began his career as a writer for CBS Radio; initially working out of the company's station in Hollywood in the mid-1930s. He was an early member of the Radio Writers Guild, and in his early career in Hollywood he wrote scripts for the radio anthology series ''Lux Radio Theatre'', the soap opera ''Sally of the Star'', and scripts for comedian W.C. Fields. After meeting his future wife Phyllis Loudon during a trip to San Francisco, West relocated to that city and joined the writing staff of KSFO. Paul Noden West (23 February 1930 – 18 October 2015) was a British-born American novelist, poet, and essayist. He was born in Eckington, Derbyshire in England to Alfred and Mildred (Noden) West. Before his death, he resided in Ithaca, New York, with his wife Diane Ackerman, a writer, poet, and naturalist. West is the author of more than 50 books. Early life West grew up in Eckington, a rural mining town in Derbyshire, England. His father, partly blinded in World War I, was often unemployed. His mother, a talented pianist, gave private lessons to help support the family. She encouraged West in his love of words and his literary ambitions. Paul Darrell West (born 22 June 1970) is an English former Association football, footballer and Manager (association football), manager. He had a four-year career in the English Football League, Football League with Port Vale F.C., Port Vale, Bradford City A.F.C., Bradford City, and Wigan Athletic F.C., Wigan Athletic, before moving on to Evesham United F.C., Evesham United via Morecambe F.C., Morecambe. He spent nine years playing for Evesham and was appointed the club's manager in 2007 before stepping down in November 2011. Stephen Clarke (born 15 October 1958 in St. Albans) is a British author. He writes mainly about France. He published six novels featuring a British protagonist named Paul West. Career Before writing books, Clarke wrote comedy sketches for BBC Radio 4 and comic-book stories for the U.S. cartoonist and comics artist Gilbert Shelton.
